Ervolin Maude Mitchell

November 12, 1940~July 31, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ervolin Maude Mitchell, nee Baldie, who
received her wings on July 31, 2024.

Ervolin was born on November 12, 1940, in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica, to Edward
and Elizabeth Baldie. The eldest of 8 children, she was always the ever-supportive elder sister to
her siblings. She attended Manning High School and went on to pursue a career in business,
working with several notable organizations in Jamaica. She retired from the Jamaica Telephone
Company, and later became an entrepreneur. Ervolin resided in St. Andrew, Jamaica, until she
migrated to Indian Trail, North Carolina in 2005.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Mitchell, in 2017 and her grand-daughter,
Brianne Stewart in 2018. She is survived by her children, Dawn-Marie Gaines, Marlene
Hendricks, Elaine Stewart and Hillary Mitchell. She will be remembered for her keen sense of
humor by her grand-children, Dominic Jones, Darren Stewart, Brittany Irving, (Nicholas Irving)
and Chamele Moss. She was also a great-grandmother to her beautiful great-grandson – Julian
Irving. Her surviving siblings, Masie, Leila ‘Cherry’, Winston, Boysie, Jennifer, and Sonia, along
with numerous nieces and nephews, will forever cherish the memories that they shared. Outside
of her immediate family, Ervolin was a surrogate mother to many of her children’s friends, who
became an extension of her family, and they affectionately called her Ms. Mitch.

Ervolin never met a stranger, and the great friends that she met along the way, will miss her
dearly. She was an avid volunteer, was very devoted to her church community – Portmore United
Church and Indian Trail Methodist Church – and was quick to lend a helping hand; she truly had
a passion for being of service to others.

Her family was her greatest joy, and she was known for her unwavering dedication to them. She
had a relentless work ethic and was a pillar of strength for many. She didn’t take no for an answer,
and that stubborn trait served her well as she journeyed through life. She loved listening to music,
and enjoyed watching soccer and basketball. Although the Miami Heat has lost a fan, Heaven has
gained an arm-chair coach and referee.

Ervolin will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for her generosity, her vibrant spirit, and
the countless lives she touched. Mummy, Erva, Aunt Erva, Ms. Mitch…… rest well in perfect peace.
Memories of your love, determination, corny jokes and wisdom will live on in our hearts forever.

I have so many lovely memories of Ms Mitch in NC and it saddened me to hear of her passing.
To Marlene, Elaine, Marie and Hillary, may the Holy Spirit continue to comfort you and lead you to the Rock in the moments when you are overwhelmed. Hold on to the happy memories, they help soften the pain as time goes by.
