Gary Jividen

March 24, 1939~March 29, 2025

Gary passed away on March 29, 2025, after battling lung cancer. He had just finished 5 out of 6 weeks of treatments. The treatments took a toll on him, but he continued to push in hopes to have more time with his wife and daughter.

Gary was born in Dunbar, West Virginia on March 24, 1939 to Raymond and Zelma Jividen. He was the oldest of 6 children. He moved down to South Florida with his family in 1959 to look for work.

In 1961 he met his wife Dianne at Henry’s Drive-In. They married on November 3, 1962. They had a loving marriage for 62 years. Their first born, Laura was born in 1963 and their second born Gary Jr, was born in 1970.

Gary was hard working even at a young age. He quit high school to help his family delivering milk, working in a restaurant and many other jobs. He worked on his grandparents’ farm in Ohio as a young boy in the summers.

He was a provider for his family. He worked in construction and was amazing at building houses from the ground up. He could fix anything he touched. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends in the Smoky Mountains. His children’s friends thought of him as another Dad. He taught his children how to do many things. He always made sure his home and yard looked good.

Gary is survived by his wife Dianne (Detrio) Jividen and daughter Laura Jividen. Sister- in-law Denise Burroughs (Ray). Nieces, Lynette Jividen, Melinda Jividen (Gambino), Tonia Kelly (Bobby). Nephews, Charles Corwin, Edward Coe III, Ryan Gill (Nicole), Jason Gill (Marjorie), Jimmy Jividen and many great nieces and nephews. He had many cousins but was close to Pam Sullins, Mike Skidmore, and Donna (Skidmore) Tipton. He had many lifelong friends.

Gary is preceded in death by his son, Gary G Jividen Jr, his parents, Raymond and Zelma Jividen, siblings, Jimmy Jividen, Raymond (Louie) Jividen, Nancy (Jividen) Gill, Marilyn (Jividen) Corwin, and Glenna Jividen (Coe), as well as a niece Jacquelyn Corwin Grate.

You weren’t just my brother in law,” you were my brother! You got me and were always accepting and kind hearted. Ray and I will miss you dearly until we see each other again. We love you, Gary.

Mr. Jividen was what I always called him because Gary was not respectful enough for the man! Mr. Jividen was and will always be family to me and I loved him very much. Mrs. Jividen and Laura may God’s peace and comfort be with you always!
