Gloria Jean Lewis passed away at age 80 on Monday, October 30, 2023, at her home in Sunrise, Florida surrounded by love and her three surviving children and daughter-in-law.
Gloria was born on April 8, 1943, in Newark, New Jersey to the late Abraham (Al) Lewis and Angela (Ann) Gareffa Lewis. She and her older brother, Don, were raised in Rahway, New Jersey. Gloria graduated from Rahway High School in 1961 and then attended Wilkes College in Pennsylvania.
Gloria married Dennis Michael Slattery in 1964 and had four children: Lisa, John, Susan, and Heather. They moved from Edison, New Jersey to Pembroke Pines, Florida in 1973 where Gloria raised her four children after her divorce in 1975. Gloria was a truly brilliant, beautiful, funny, kind, and generous soul. Known as Momma Glo to many, Gloria opened her home and heart to her children’s friends and her friends and neighbors. She was loved by all. Gloria was an exceptional cook, hostess, artist, home decorator, beauty hunter, political activist, gift giver, conversationalist, and listener. Professionally, she excelled throughout her career in sales, where she repeatedly distinguished herself as a top producer, leader, and beloved colleague. Despite struggling to raise four children as a single woman and parent in Florida during the 70s and 80s, Gloria achieved significant financial success, paying off a lovely home and several new cars, and meaningful personal success, raising kind, loving, ethical children into adulthood and nurturing and loving her six grandchildren and great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Al and Ann Lewis, and her beloved daughter, Susan Slattery Nessmith, Gloria is survived by her three children: daughter Lisa Anne Slattery Cordeiro and her husband, Jim Cordeiro, son John Christopher Slattery and his wife, Holly Slattery, and daughter Heather Slattery Lewis Sebring and her husband, James Ray Sebring, Jr. Gloria is survived by six grandchildren: Samantha Slattery, Shelbie Nessmith, Vance Slattery, Marshall Slattery, Sophia Sebring, and Aidan Hansard, one great-grandchild, Joseph Nessmith, her brother, Donald Lewis and his wife, Connie Lewis; nephews, Greg Lewis and Jon Lewis, her beloved fur-baby, Mush, and her dear friends.
Gloria, and her beautiful heart and kind soul, will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at Boyd Panciera Family Funeral Care, 1600 North University Drive, Pembroke Pines Florida, 33024 on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 11 am-2 pm. The memorial service will run from 11 am-12 pm, followed by a small reception thereafter, from 12pm until 2pm.

You were my best friend since 4th grade in Roosevelt School. Even though we have been physically apart for many years you were always in my heart. You will remain there until I see you again.
