Gloria Joyce Chambers

August 27, 1928~September 14, 2024

Gloria Joyce Chambers (nee Doran), age 96 years, of Miramar, Florida passed away on September 14, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.

Gloria was born in Newton, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica to Basil and Daisy Doran on August 27, 1928. She taught briefly at Ferncourt High School before moving to Slipe Government Elementary School, St. Elizabeth.   It was here that she met Ronald Chambers, Principal, and on September 10, 1949, they were married.  They moved to Clarendon as Principal and Vice Principal, respectively of Toll Gate Primary School where together they molded young minds for future success.  They had six children, Michael, Anthony, Lloyd, Ronald, Joy and Courtney.  With a passion for learning, she migrated to Hartford, CT where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Master of Science degree in Business from the University of Hartford all while working full time at Cigna Insurance Company. She retired to Florida from Aetna Insurance Company where she was a Systems Analyst formulating protocols for insurance products.

Her retirement years were spent advising the World’s 1st Cricket Hall of Fame through 1st son and founder, Michael, and enjoying her expanding family in Connecticut, Florida and Jamaica.  She loved all things sports related and eagerly anticipated basketball season supporting the Miami Heat and her favorite players who she knew by name.  While the rest of us watching were still figuring it out, her “calculator brain” had already stated the number of points needed for the vying family to win on Family Feud.  Her sharp wit was intact always, and she leaves a legacy of stories of Mama, Aunty G, Grandma, Mother C, Miss G, Mother Chambers, with many smiles and much laughter, but also strong memories of her words of encouragement and support.  And in her classroom many years before, the words painted on the wall….AIM HIGH, AIM FOR THE SKY.  She always aimed high and with confidence.  Graduations were always significant and big events for Gloria and the family and so it was a joy and blessing for granddaughter Danielle to share with Grandma on September 6th that she had received her Bachelor of Science degree!  Gloria was family focused delivering unwavering support.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Ronald, sister Kathleen (Marie) Weise, brothers Basil Jr, Jack, Desmond and Oliver.

Gloria is survived by: Children – Michael (Marjorie), Anthony (Carol), Lloyd (Marilyn), Ronald (Roxanne), Joy, Courtney (Tamson) and Stepdaughter Avis; Grandchildren – Michael Jr, Krysta, Kimberly, Alexandra, Melonie, Rochelle, Ethan, Brandon, Danielle, C. Emerson, Blossom, Carmen, Michelle, Ayanna, Antoine; Great-grandchildren – Alijah, Aiden, Mila, Maya, Christopher, Sebastian, Riley, Courtney, Andre, Rochelle, Taneil, Mya, Nathan, Ethan; Great-great grandchildren Kyron, Kian, Milana, Avani; Sister – Cecille; Sisters-in-law Joni and Shirley; many nieces, nephews and a very loving and supportive extended family.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at St. Benedict’s Episcopal Church, 7801 NW 5th Street, Plantation, FL 33324.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Episcopal Church, with Reverend Albert Cutie, officiating.

Looking at the lovely picture and beautiful smile of Ms G brings back many fond memories of the times I had the privilege to share with her. Indeed, she felt like family to me and she treated me as such. Funny I somewhat believed that Ms G would live forever! In my mind, she has not changed in the 40 years I’ve know her. Her face was always bright, her spirit optimistic and her smile never vanishing. I will miss
that sweet personality but her legacy lives on on the hearts she has touched. Walk good my dear Miss G and sleep in eternal peace!

Tribute Statement
Ms G’s compassion, love and belief in her students gave them the Self Esteem to pursue life wherever they go.
Ms G’s third class and after school common entrance lessons were so important in giving us a strong scholastic foundation.
I am pretty sure the answer to the Security Question “Favourite Teacher” for most of us (past students) is Ms G.
Rest in Peace my Favorite Teacher, Ms G.
My Condolences to the family, keep WELL.

Much love and condolesces to the Chambers family from the Millers family of Toll Gate Clarendon. Ms G who I otherwise called Goddie was my god mother who was a loving and caring person. She helped to guide my professional choice of social work many years ago. When I told her I wanted to pursue Clinical Psychology but it was not offered at UWI she took the time and did sòme consultation and told me to pursue a psychology based course which could be used as a stepping stone. This advice guided my career choice and subsequently provided for me and my family over the years in many ways . May God hold her family to His busom while He comforts you in you grief. Accentuate the rich tapestry of love she has sewn as a testimony of her service to God and her community. I have no doubt she is full of joy with her Savior. Every Blessings .

I met Mrs. Chambers a couple times, and I was very impressed with her charm and wisdom. Moreso, I know 3 of her children: Lloyd, Al and Joy, and their lives reflect her positive and loving influence.
Lloyd, I know more than the others, and he’s a jewel of a human being. He had a calm, yet strong personality and his life goal seems to be one which reflects the song, “If I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living shall be in vain. Now I understand where he learned this. Mother Chambers, of course.

It is said that death is the only egalitarian minister whose action is balanced by the shared experiences of compassion, respect, and unselfish love. Over 50 years ago, Ms G trusted Tony’s judgment, and opened her home to me, at a time of my greatest need. For this, I remain eternally grateful. So at this moment, when we celebrate her life and transition to heaven, I want to extend my most heartfelt embrace to Tony, Michael, Lloyd, JOY, Courtney, and the entire Chamber’s family. Ms G’s exemplary humanism has firmly secured her legacy in the lives of all those privileged to have been a part of it, and so, as we say so long, let’s hope we can be half as consequencial as she was. I pray God will grant her peace, and that the Chambers family will be given the strength, courage, and resignation to manage this moment, knowing Ma’ G will always have a special place in all our hearts.
LOVE YA ‘LL, Ray ( Dr Reinaldo Austin ).

I’m not sure what to say or how I feel about the passing of my former teacher, Ms. Gee (Mrs. Cahmbers), who inspired me to excel academically as she could see great potential in me when others’ including teachers at Toll Gate Primary School, did not. Since my progress in life, I’ve always viewed Ms Gee as a guiding force, including the academic achievements of her children, particularly, Michael and Tony, whose scholastic achievements I’ve followed keenly and wanted to mirror, and to that end achieved.
Over the past years – 15, or thereabout, I was fortunate and privileged to be in her company along with Al & Lloyd, at Lloyd’s gas station on a few occasions, and each time she happily engaged in conversations with me as an equal and not as a former student, or undermined my intelligence. To that end, those welcoming feelings and lively discussions with her will live with me forever, as she closed a chapter of doubt in my life and joyfully opened a positive one as an equal.
Ms Gee, Teacher Chambers, May your soul rest in eternal peace.

To the family of Ms. G,

I offer my deepest condolences to you during this time. Ms. G was truly the best. She cared for each of us, not just as students but as whole persons, always ensuring we grew in both mind and spirit. Her passion for education sowed the seed of lifelong learning in me, and I will forever be grateful. I was blessed to visit her a few years ago, and I thank Philmore and Joy for that precious gift.

I want to express my gratitude to you, her family, for sharing her with us. Her influence shaped who I am today, and I owe much of my success to her dedication and love.

As you grieve, I pray you find comfort in these words: *”The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).* May you experience the peace of God’s presence during this time, knowing that Ms. G’s legacy will live on in all of us who were touched by her kindness and wisdom.

With heartfelt sympathy and prayers,

Adrian and I send Our Sincere Condolences to the entire family of Mama ‘G’ – Grandma Chambers. ❤️
She will forever live on in our hearts along with the countless memories we had together. My favorite one where we had the most laughter was when she and I ‘ganged’ up against Joy or when we talked Miami Heat basketball from who should or shouldn’t be on the team to the players we didn’t even recognize. She would always have special words of encouragement for Adrian.
She often spoke of her childhood and how she excelled in school which we know now became the stepping stone that propelled her onto her esteemed educational path.
The Loss of a Loved one especially a Mother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know, no amount of words can express the pain that each one of you are going through – hold on to her memories and know she is always with you. Take comfort in knowing what you once enjoyed together you can never lose.
Rest well Mama ‘G’ – Grandma Chambers! 🙏🏼

My deepest heartfelt condolences to Joy, Courtney and the whole Chambers family.

My first memories of your mom go way back to the years when Joy, (later Courtney) and myself attended University of Hartford together. Mom was intelligent, vibrant, graceful and yet stern. Education was key so she was selective about places Joy and Courtney could go and the friends they could keep. Well, gladly I passed the friendship test! It’s been fascinating to see how she kept those same qualities throughout the years; highlighted with her welcoming beautiful smiles, warm hugs and engaging conversations.

I admired her and will miss her. Back when I thought she was too strict, I later realized that her good parental discipline and love produced amazing adults. We should all benefit by her example.

May God grant the family His strength and comfort during this difficult season.
