November 24, 1949~February 28, 2023

Gregory “Greg” L. Taggi, 73, of Cooper City, Florida passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, after a lengthy illness. Greg was surrounded by his loved ones when he died peacefully. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Greg was born in Lima, Ohio on November 24, 1949 and was raised in Chicago, Illinois.  After graduating from Tooley High School, Greg enlisted in the USMC during the Vietnam War in January 1968 and served until March 1970. After a several chilly Chicago winters, Greg decided to visit Miami and found paradise. It was the blue skies, beaches, fishing and sun.

In 1977, Greg met Kathy, and both their lives changed. Living together almost immediately, they were together for 46 years, true soulmates, best friends and partners for eternity. They were married in 1984 followed by two wonderful sons, Matthew (1986) and Jesse (1991).  Greg’s devotion to his wife and two sons, Matthew and Jesse was eternal.  When Matthew and Jesse were born, his life became dedicated to being the most present, wonderful, funny, kind father he never had.  Greg loved working on special projects, golfing, fishing and spending time with his sons more than anything.  Matthew and Jesse will forever carry his light and love in their hearts.

A stroke sidelined Greg’s 32 year career with the Dade County Public Schools. Greg was hired as a painter and ended his career as a Project Manager. He loved his job and the people he worked with. He loved tinkering, building things, creating, propagating plants, tending to his home and to his family. Greg was knowledgeable about anything and everything; a walking encyclopedia; knowledge he loved to share. He loved Hawaiian shirts and said that if everyone wore them, life would be better. Greg loved the game of golf; and when he couldn’t play any longer, he loved watching tournaments on TV with his sons. Listening to music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s made him happy. Greg’s love of doing Life his way will always be remembered.

Greg is survived by his wife, Kathryn Taggi; his sons: Matthew Albert Taggi 36 and his wife Kelly and their daughter (due May 2023) Sophia; Jesse Evan Taggi, and his fiancé Rachel Meadows. He is survived by his step-brother, Phillip Swanson, Tampa, FL, his brothers-in-law, Joe Rich and Paul Rich, sister-in-law, Marina Rich and his mother-in-law, Ardythe W. Rich, father-in law, Joe Rich and Rusty Rich.  He is predeceased by his mother, Josephine Swanson and his siblings, Stephanie, Michael and Sally.

Greg is still here in the spirit and souls of all the people he loved. We still miss him every single day but we hold those great husband/dad/friend memories in our heart. They comfort us. We were in the presence of a real great guy, smart, funny, silly, loyal and protective. I personally will miss all these qualities and more. I was blessed to have been with such a great, he took care of everything.

Dear Taggi Family Greg was my across the street neighbor in 1968 we lived on Humboldt Blvd in Chicago for many many years that’s when I met him. We were good friends we laughed a lot
My boyfriend Randy Olson Greg and Tom Keply all joined the Marines together. Greg was a good friend I’m going to miss him. Here’s a funny for you. Greg worked out in his basement I came across to see who was around Greg said just me. He asked if I wanted to learn how to lift weights. I said sure just cause I was so bored. Greg told me to stand in front of the bar to address it first. I moved toward it looked down and said “hello bar” Greg bent over laughing I thought he was going to wet himself. I was embarrassed and done with my weight lifting session
Goodbye old friend
