Jim was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1921 to Eda and Herbert Wunderlich, Sr. He had two older sisters, who have already passed on.
After graduating from high school in 1941, he entered the service. There he served his country until 1945 in the First Calvary Division, fighting in such places as the South Pacific, New Guinea, the Philippines, Australia, and Admiralty Island.
After being discharged, he married the love of his life, Helen K Schmidt, in 1946, and they had their only son, Paul, in 1949. In 1951, they moved to Davie, FL, where they were to spend the rest of their years together.
Upon settling in, he and his family joined Davie United Methodist Church, which he regularly attended for over 50 years. He served as Head Usher for decades and Custodian for 15 years. Jim will be remembered by many as the ultimate greeter, meeting church members with a smile, a kiss, and a flashy bow tie.
Jim worked as a letter carrier for the US Post Office for over 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years.
Without a doubt, he was a family man, as his granddaughters, Tina and Kathy, were the apples of his eye. His family, his church, and his country were his 3 great loves.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of over 57 years; his son Paul; his daughter-in-law, Sara; his granddaughters, Tina and Kathy; and his neices, Marybelle Westcott and Wendy and Laura Carrell.
