Scott McLaughlin, a 48-year old resident of Dania Beach, died peacefully in his sleep at home on February 3rd at the age of 91.

He was born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania on April 28th, 1929, the son of Ira S. McLaughlin and Bertha Lee Carroll.  His mother was a direct descendant of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

Scott graduated from New Kensington High School and received at Bachelors degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

After a stint in the Army, he worked for Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation in Pittsburgh.

He moved to New York City in 1968 and worked at Licensed Beverage Industries for four years before he and his partner, Dick Lehman decided to relocate to Florida.  They chose Dania Beach and lived first at The Danians Apartments, before buying a house in the southeast section of the city.

Scott worked for 19 years for the State of Florida, Department of Health & Rehabilitative Services, retiring in 1990. He took and active interest in Dania affairs, and assisted Dick on the Main Street Program and the revivals of the Tomato Festival, as well as helping him in his business, Dick’s Toys and Collectibles, in the Antique Center of Dania.

Avid travelers, Scott and Dick took a total of 35 cruises over the past 20 years and visited 51 countries, including Australia, South Africa, Russia, and Singapore.

Scott belonged to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, The Royal Oak Foundation, The Metropolitan Opera Guild and numerous animal-rights organizations.  He was an avid reader, and his main literary pursuits centered on biographies of noted authors and classical musicians, American history, and nautical affairs.

Beside his life partner of 55 years, he is survived by a niece, Carol Kenney of Aurora, Ohio and a nephew, Dan McLaughlin of Auburn New York.

He will forever be missed by all.
