James Thomas Dyess

October 30, 1931~May 15, 2011

Dyess, James Jimmie Thomas, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 from complications related to a recent surgery. Papa, as he was affectionately known, was born October 30, 1931 in Fletcher, Oklahoma. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War and was proud of his service to his county. He married Patricia Ann Chambers and together they had six children. Papa lived and worked much of his adult life in Slaterville Springs, near Ithaca, NY. When he retired, after 28 yrs, from Morse Chain, he moved to Florida in 1993 to get away from the cold and snow. His final years were spent in Sunrise, FL where he owned and operated his handyman business, Can Do Repair. He was well known for always being there to help those in need and helping in any way he could. He will be remembered for his booming voice, his laughter, his constant smile, his love of coaching, his singing and whistling, living life to the fullest, and having never met a stranger. I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your loved one. Unfortunately, death is never easy to deal with and the hardest part is now. The best advice that I can give is to: Depend on God, even if you don’t understand why things happen. You will understand one day. Cry as much as you want. Laugh about the good and silly times as much as you want. Everyone has their own way of mourning. So love each other through this difficult time. Most importantly, God and time will heal you. Just remember to take one day at a time. God bless you and your family.

To the best family in the whole world – we were so blessed to have him as long as we did. It will never have been long enough but he will always be with us. His voice alone is in our heads and will be guiding us the rest of the way.

What he would want us to do is to always be there for each other as he was for us and that is what we will continue to do.

I love you all and Daddy – I love and miss you more than anyone will ever know!!! Rest in peace.

We wish you all the Love and Sympathy on the loss of a great man. Dad, Mr. Happy and I were long time neighbors. I remember him always singing and whistling on his way out in the morning and then coming home at night. Jim was always looking out for my children when I wasn’t home. He treated them like his own. When ever I needed anything he was there. One thing that sticks out is when something was broken you use crazy glue. Even when you cut yourself. He laways had something to speak about and was always learning. You never knew where the conversation would go but it was always interesting. Love ya Dad, Will miss you very much. I did not know Jimmie all that well and had not seen him since I was a little girl but thanks to Face Book and E-mail we became aquainted and shared things about our family. Jimmie and I were cousins. My heart is warmed by all the things his friends and family have shared about him, that says it all if your family can speak well of you. What a tribute to such a fine man. I will miss hearing from him but am thankful I got to know him.
