Joan was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Margaret & Christopher Barnes. She was the youngest of 4 children. In Sept. of 1956 she married Frank M. Duva, they were together till Frank passed on in June of 2010.  They had three children. Along with rising her family she worked at a few different careers over the years.

In 1977, Joan decided to leave Brooklyn and move to South Florida and went to work at Jackson Memorial Hospital for 25 years. After her retirement she joined The American Legion (post 304 in Dania Beach) and volunteered her time helping on different committees. But she also loved to travel so she took advantage of her retirement and enjoyed herself. Her traveling started to slow down about 10 years ago.
The last 3 years had been very hard on her but thanks to her care giver, her friends & neighbors she kept going.
Joan passed away peacefully in her sleep with her son by her side on the 10th of December.
