John William Dapprich, “Designer Extraordinaire,” passed away unexpectedly at his summer cabin in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. He also resided in Fort Lauderdale, Florida during the winter months.
Born on March 6, 1937, in Dearborn, Michigan, John was the beloved son of Elton L. Dapprich and Ellen Mae (Ketchum) Dapprich. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Lee. John is survived by his life partner, Glenn Kovacs, and a multitude of friends who cherished him deeply.
John’s distinguished career in interior design began after he graduated from Kendall School of Design in 1962. His professional journey included notable roles at Burdine’s Department Store and Jordan Marsh Department Store before founding Dapprich Interiors in Coconut Grove. Among his impressive portfolio, he designed for high-profile clients such as Joe Garagiola, Jack Paar, Henry Kissinger, Admiral Rickenbacker, and Senator George and Carolyn Smathers. His work also included TV commercials for Bob Griese of the Miami Dolphins and significant projects like the Key Biscayne Hotel, Marco Beach Hotel, and JFK International Hotel. John served as the Director of Interior Design for Deltona Corp, Miami, and was a proud member of ASID for over 30 years. His contributions to the field earned him a place in the ninth edition of “Who’s Who in the World.”
John remained an active and influential figure in the design world throughout his life, leaving behind a legacy of elegance and creativity.
The service and funeral arrangements are being entrusted by Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care in Pembroke Pines, Florida. A viewing will be held on September 17, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM., and also On September 18, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with a Tributes Of A Lifetime service at 11:00 AM. Following the service, there will be a funeral procession to Woodlawn Park North Cemetery and Mausoleum, 3260 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33135, where John will be interred with Military Honors at 1:00 PM.
A celebration of John’s life will be held later that evening at 5:30 PM at Seawatch Restaurant, 6002 N. Ocean Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308.
John will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of design and his vibrant spirit will continue to inspire and be remembered.
