Lavinia “Snookes” Washington, the daughter of the late Thomas Miller and Nancy Grant, was born August 19, 1919, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at her home in Plantation, Florida.
Sometime during the early 1920’s, Lavinia relocated to Harlem, New York where she was raised by her grandmother Rachel Grant and great aunt Sarah Grant. Lavinia attend the public school system where her fondness of music was nurtured and she took to playing the violin. Her love of music was prominent her entire life. She loved all genres of music and dance and instilled the importance of the arts in her children. She listened and enjoyed Jazz, Gospel, Rhythm and Blues, Classical and would even move her body to the sound of Rap. Growing up music and dance was always a part of our daily life.
Lavinia Washington was a valued employee of the “Chock Full O Nuts” restaurant chain for many years until her retirement. After retirement she was hit by the travel bug and was blessed with the opportunity to travel the world.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Dianna Sebastian, sisters Estella Jenkins and Mildred Eans, her
grandson Allen Nathaniel and his wife Linda; and great granddaughter Katelyn. Many loving and devoted friends, a host of, nieces and nephews, including her loving devoted companions, Ina Foster, Vinette Schiteron, Linda Thorton, Greta Anderson and Pauline Smith.

Lavinia “Snookes” Washington, a grand thank you for 99years of joy, laughter, your words of wisdom, and loving smile. We are blessed to have such wonderful memories of a truly grand lady. We pray your transition was easy and the Angels opened the Gates of Heaven with a greeting of “Welcome Lavinia, Job Well Done”.
She is survived by daughter, Dianna Sebastian. Visitation will take place on Sunday, September 9th, from 3:00-5:00 PM with a Tribute of a Lifetime Service at 4:00 PM at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, University Drive Chapel.
