Linda M. Boyd

January 16, 1948~September 29, 2020

On Tuesday September 29th, 2020 Linda Boyd, 72 of Pembroke Pines, FL, a loving mother, and grandmother quietly passed away at the home of her son after a short battle with stage IV Lung Cancer in Southwest Ranches, FL.

Linda was born on January 16, 1948 to Sam and Phyllis Martin in Murphysboro, IL. The Martin family relocated to Florida in 1957 and started a small hotel on Hollywood Beach. Having lived in South Florida for most of her life, Linda has always been an active servant in her community. When Linda was fifteen, she started serving in the Rainbow Girls where she learned the importance of giving back and public speaking. Linda recently shared with her daughter in law, Teresa Boyd that “Rainbow Girls was one of the most impactful things that shaped my future, as I learned to conquer the fear of public speaking early in life”.

Serving in the GFWC Florida Federation of Women’s Clubs since 1974, a current member to this day, the State President from 2002 – 2004 and a Past President of the GFWC Woman’s Club of West Broward in Davie. Linda also served the General Federation of Women’s Clubs in several positions and was on the Southern Region Domestic Violence Committee. During that time, she worked on a matter near to her heart with several State and National organizations on Domestic Violence and was instrumental in bringing the vote to ensuring this issue had a National voice. During Linda’s time serving in the Domestic Violence Committee, they raised over $17 million dollars for shelters.

Linda was active with the Davie-Cooper City Relay For Life with the American Cancer Society for several years and led the steering committee as their Luminary Chairman.  In addition, she worked for many years with Canine Companions For Independence helping to provide service dogs for individuals with disabilities and was the South Florida Registration Chair for Dog Fest 2016. For the past 15 years, Linda has aided in the organization of the Davie Orange Blossom Festival Parade and has functioned as a judge in the event many times. In addition, she has assisted with the Davie Easter Egg Hunt, Take-A-Kid Fishing, and the town’s Fourth of July celebration.

Linda was also a loyal member of the World Flower Counsel since 2011 where she donated countless hours volunteering at the at the annual worldwide summits and at the local home office. This gave her the opportunity to see the world in her trips to Croatia, Japan, Australia, China, Africa, Tahiti, and many many more.

Linda served with her whole heart at her church Rise Community in Cooper City in the Hospitality and Café teams and in special events such as the Youth Fundraisers, Christmas Angels and Haiti’s Hope. She always had a smile to share and ear to lend to everyone.

Prior to her career in the funeral business Linda travelled the world as a flight attendant for TWA (this was her dream job), this fueled her passion for traveling the world.

Professionally, Linda continued her passion to help others through the grieving process at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care for over 45 years in numerous roles. Including the Director of Family Services working closely with the Boyd-Panciera staff and families they served. This role included organizing and planning special events such as Holiday Support, Tree of Memories and Wreaths Across America with South Florida National Cemetery. One of her beloved events was organizing and facilitating the monthly Wing’s of Hope Bereavement Support Group.

Personally, Linda was an amazing wife, mom, grandmother, aunt, and a friend to everyone she met. She loved spending her time reading books, cheering for her Miami Dolphins (especially Jason Taylors backside), being a roadie Grandma for her grandson’s band Amongst the Giants, and family get togethers at home, in the Keys or traveling abroad.

Linda is preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis, and her father, Samuel. She is survived by Larry Boyd, her husband of nearly forty years and friend for life. Her son Michael Boyd, Daughter-in-law Teresa Boyd, Grandson Brian Boyd, Granddaughter Kayla Boyd, Grand-pup Gizmo, and her nieces, nephew, great nieces and great nephews, cousins and her aunt.

I am sad that we will no longer be able to fellowship/worship together in person, this is even more difficult as we were robbed of this opportunity these last 6 months.
But those feelings are selfish so I try to think of how happy you must be in Paradise: enjoy the land of “no pain, no sickness, no suffering.” You are now happy in the presence of our Lord & Savior.
I will miss you, my beautiful friend
