Celebration of Life for Louis “Louie” Edwards
Louis “Louie” Edwards was born on July 7, 1931, to John Henry Edwards Sr. and Ursula Frances Waithe Edwards in Harlem, New York. He was the second to the youngest of 6 children.
Louie began his schooling in New York City public school system and graduated from Seward High School in 1949. He later went back to Queens Community College to take Business Administration classes. He served in the US Army during World War II in Germany and also the Korean War as an instructor teaching other soldiers how to read and write. He later retired from the US Post Office with 32 years of service on June 2, 2000, as a mail carrier. He worked in downtown Manhattan and had several skyscraper buildings, such as the Empire State building and World Trade Center. He would often speak about his upward route and taking the elevator to the top floors and working his way down.
He was blessed with two marriages and from the unions had 9 beautiful children. His current wife, Yvonne P. Edwards, of 45 years whom he loved deeply until his passing. He adopted two of her sons Andre O. Edwards and Ramon G. Edwards and was a father figure to Garth A. Deidrick and Brett A. Young. His first wife, Doctor Phyllis Robinson, had four children, Louis C. Edwards, Toya J. Wright, Phillip J. Edwards, and Lois M. Rhodes. He was recently united with his son Michael E. Lawson and was blessed to have 2 wonderful years with him.
Louie is survived by his wife Yvonne P. Edwards, children Louis C. (Denise) Edwards, Garth A. (Maria) Deidrick, Toya J. (Garry) Wright, Brett A. (Judy) Young, Phillip J. Edwards (deceased), Lois M. Rhodes, Michael E. Lawson, Ramon G. (Denise) Edwards, Andre O. (Leah) Edwards, 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of loving in laws, other relatives, and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023, at 11;00am at the Grace Baptist Church located at 19200 Griffin Road, Southwest Ranches, FL 33332.
