Louise Yollande Bernard was a caring wife, mother, grandma, Aunt, sister, sister- in law and friend. She left this world on Tuesday March the 13 th 2024 after a long illness. Her courageous fight with her medical issues shows her bravery in dealing with life challenges. Yollande was born in Petite Riviere de l’Artibonite, Haiti on February the 16th, 1939. Early in life, she showed a desire to help others. That love pushed her to a career in healthcare that she practiced until moving to the states. and alleviate people’s suffering made her perform above and beyond what was expected from her. There are countless examples of medical situations that she helped treat. Because of time constraint, only 2 will be related today: At hospital Albert Schweitzer in Petite Riviere, Haiti, a lady came to deliver a baby but the doctor was not currently in at the hospital. The woman was in labor and seeing that the life of both mother and child were in danger, Yollande jumped into action. She delivered the baby, cut the umbilical cord and did safely everything that needed to be done. When the doctor arrived, mother and baby were resting in their bed and crib. That experience influenced her to become a midwife. Another grave situation occurred when a next door neighbor had a third degree burn from her face to her legs. The lady couldn’t get to a hospital. There was no center nearby to go for help. Infection was imminent. They called Yollande in. She saw the gravity of the situation and understood that she was the last result. Using what experience in the field taught her, she took care of the wounds. The wounds were healed and the lady lived to be in her nineties.
Yollande has always been a workaholic. She could not stay inactive. In her free time, she started sewing. She became so good that she used to make nice dresses and beautiful muumuus for all of us. After a productive life in her native town, she moved to the capital where she kept taking care of the unwell at the Puits Blain hospital for over xx years. She performed her duties until she decided to join her daughter Ronide in the United States, who was already leaving here. She made Miami her home. She resided here until she expired, surrounded by family.
Yollande’s departure left in complete grief her children: Karline Bernard, Allens Juste, Ronide Zephir, nee Juste, Gana Juste, Martine Theodore, nee Juste, Fabiola Juste. Her 3 sisters: Marie Rose Laguerre, born Bernard, Violette Hall, born Bernard and Marie-Stuart Deravile, born Bernard. Her grandchildren Natouchika, Kael, Kevin Steve, Judgael, Margarita, Jeff, Gaina, Nalienka, Stephany, Estheita, Shaeley, and Giovani, her nephews and nieces: Clifford Laguerre, Stanley and Max Hall, Cassandre and Steven Ferdinand, Yasmine Hall, Tayina Deravile, Anthony Deravile, Regine Bernard, Johnny Bernard, Countless cousins and great grand children. She will be greatly missed.
