Mark Wilson

September 10, 1972~September 11, 2020

Mark N. Wilson, Jr. was born to Mark E. Wilson, Sr., and Jenetha Z. (Wilson-Butler) on September 10, 1972 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. When Mark was about 13 years old, he migrated to Miami, Florida with his family. Diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum as a young boy, he proved to the world and to himself each day that with faith and trust in God, anything is possible. With the help of his family, Mark learned to live with his diagnosis as a testament of God’s grace, and as a special super-power meant to exhibit God’s glory and the immeasurable strength he had been given. He used this strength in his abilities, his many gifts, his voice, and his faith to teach others to use their gifts for the same purpose and to not be defined or restricted by a diagnosis.

Throughout his life, he lived as a shining example of what it means to be a true servant of God and a servant leader. Mark demonstrated what dreaming, believing, and working to achieve your dreams, without limits, can produce. Whatever Mark envisioned, he manifested. For example, as a little boy, he always dreamed of operating heavy equipment, and when he grew up, he was able to achieve that dream by attending Miami Lakes Educational Center and Technical College and earning his certifications in operating heavy equipment and as a heavy equipment maintenance technician.

Mark was a teacher, counselor, and mentor for The Lighthouse Group Beacon of Hope. He was the inspiration behind his Dad’s vision who then founded this wonderful organization years ago. The Lighthouse, its staff, and consumers, were Mark’s life and passion, and it showed. Mark was patient, dedicated, compassionate, and committed as he provided support to everyone, working in tandem with his Dad. Mark was The Lighthouse. Mark is The Lighthouse.

In addition, Mark also went on to become a musician. Music was an integral aspect of his family’s life as we were growing up, and he thrived on it. He learned to read music, and he also played instruments by ear, especially enjoying the keyboard and drums though he also played the guitar. He was a drummer for his church and was honored to serve the Lord with his gift while blessing others. Mark was a music connoisseur with eclectic tastes, but he had a special appreciation for classical and jazz. He developed an enormous playlist over the years and listened to his choices daily. In addition, like his sisters, Dawn, and Sherry, he enjoyed all things Sesame Street and The Muppet Show, which contributed to their quirky sense of humor – even as adults. He loved reminiscing about his favorite Sesame Street episodes and sketches with his nieces to continue the tradition. He was all about family. As his family took care of him, he took care of them. Mark was loved—and continues to be loved—deeply.

Mark loved to build, design, and collect model cars, trucks, yachts, and spacecraft. This was a pastime that started when he was a child who loved cars and trucks, and his Mom helped him build a collection of Matchbox Model cars and trucks. Mark’s parents also provided him with Lego sets, and Mark meticulously designed intricate models based on vehicles he observed especially when his Dad took him on work-related, heavy equipment job sites. Whatever Mark studied with his eyes and processed in his mind, he created with his hands. It was amazing to watch! Mark was a gifted human being. He always dreamed big and he went on to achieve his dreams. He dreamed for others too, and his dreams came to pass and are still coming to pass.

Mark was an excellent communicator; he had a way with words–and with people. It didn’t matter who you were, he treated you with respect and positive regard, taking interest in your needs and your dreams, and providing support and encouragement as you pursued your dreams or worked on your tasks. He never met a stranger – he was so loving, genuine, and open that he could engage with anyone he encountered. Mark was and is truly an inspiration to all who have been blessed to know and love him, and to every life he has touched. He loved the Lord with all his heart and served tirelessly doing the Lord’s work.

Mark departed from this Earth at the age of 48 on Friday, September 11th, 2020. He was predeceased by his sister, Dawn Wilson, and his stepfather, Neville Butler. He is survived by his father, Mark Wilson, Sr. (Karen); his mother, Jenetha Wilson-Butler; his siblings, Sherry Wilson-King (Alan) and Lyndon (Nathalin), Arraven Musgrove (adoptive), and Alexander Ayala (adoptive), Natalie (stepsister), Damian (stepbrother); his nieces, Sydney, Courtney and Alena King; a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins, including, but not limited to cousins June Ali (Badal), Khaleel (Marsha), Khadine Ali (Alex), the Sampson’s, the Perrott’s, the Wilson’s, the Marcano’s, the Vialva’s, along with numerous others; and a host of friends, church family, and colleagues.

The Mirander Family is heart broken to learn that Bro. Mark Wilson, Jr is now with the Lord. We are heart broken because we will miss his presence of being a person who bless with his smile, with his words and with the anointing that God gave him for his time on earth. He was an angel in earthly form. We’ve known him from his early years, and saw the miracle work that God performed through him. He grew up to be a functionally independent person, with the love of God so prevalent in his life. His father who raised him in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, have been special in my family’s heart for years. It is no wonder why Mark Jr. became the man that he had become. They both were one and you would often see them together as one. May God’s love rest upon the Wilson family. Michael, Daniel, David, Jeremiah and I love you much.

There are no words to express the sadness I feel and felt when I heard about Mark’s passing. Mark was described to me as a beautiful, gentle soul, full of life and smiles and very kind hearted to all who he met. I never saw him upset and never heard him speak above a mere whisper. Every single time he saw me, he always was meek and full of kind words and smiles. To me, he was an angel walking upon this earth. I know that he impacted my life as he had so many others. My message to the family is that God will keep them close in His loving arms and dry the many tears that will be shed. Mark is only sleeping for a while. Resurrection morning is coming and I have no doubt in my mind that Jesus will raise him from his sleep and take him to his heavenly home. I will keep the family in my daily prayers.
