Michael J. Keane, 89 of Plantation, FL passed away Sunday November 20, 2022, at his home.  He was the husband of Susan Keane.

Born July 4, 1933, in New Rochelle, NY, he was the son of the late William Keane and the late Catherine Denihan Keane both originally of Ireland.

Michael grew up in New Rochelle, NY with his brothers and sister attending the Blessed Sacrament School and New Rochelle High School.

Following his early years in high school, he joined the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a flight line engine mechanic working on long distance military aircraft in Puerto Rico.  Upon completion of military service, Michael attended the New York State Police School, becoming a State Trooper in 1958.  While working as a State Trooper, he also graduated from the Empire State College now known as the University of Albany.   He served the State of NY for 20 years reaching the rank of investigator before retiring in 1978.  During this period, Michael also joined the NY Army National Guard continuing his love of military service. Michael would then join the US Coast Guard in NY before transferring to FL, obtaining the final rank of Chief of Port (Miami/Fort Lauderdale) before military retirement.

Upon retirement from the troopers, he would move to Florida in 1978 joining the Florida Department of Law Enforcement; and subsequently joined the Broward County (FL) State Attorney’s office, both as a special investigator. Upon retiring from the State Attorney’s Office, he joined Carnaval Cruise Lines investigating incidents for the company.

His family was his priority.  He met his wife Susan, and they were married in 1991. He and Susan enjoyed the benefits of cruising together, visiting their children and grandchildren often, and traveling the world.  Mike enjoyed tinkering and woodworking and helping his friends and neighbors.

Mike was always stopping to talk to everyone and was genuinely interested in people.  Mike would always try to get people to smile or to let them “bend his ear”.  He was everyone’s friend, and one might be hard pressed to find someone who didn’t like him.  This would even include some of those he arrested and put in jail!  Mike was always telling stories of his past and often shared them with anyone who would listen.  He tried his hand at professional writing and took a course however most of his writing enjoyment came from his memories with his siblings and buddies back in the day.

Mike is survived by his wife Susan Keane, son Timothy B. Keane (Vicki), stepdaughter Kristin Pape (Darin), stepson J.T. Handley (Michelle), sister Margaret, grandchildren Michala, Hannah, Jacob, Ashley and Madison.

Michael was preceded in death by his son Kevin, his brothers Brian, William, John and Matthew Keane.

There is a gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, December 7 th, 2022, from 5:00-8:00 PM with a Tributes of a Lifetime Service at 6:00 PM at Boyd-Panciera’s University Drive Chapel located at 1600 N. University Drive, Pembroke Pines, Florida, 33024.

He will be laid to rest at South Florida National Cemetery with a private Military Honors Service.
