Morris Eugene “Gene” Carlisle, age 92, of Miami Shores, Florida, passed away on February 6, 2025. Gene was born January 24, 1933 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Morris and Laura Carlisle. He spent his childhood in Alabama and Freeport, New York. When he wasn’t working, Gene enjoyed playing sports. His favorite pastime was building and racing boats.
After proudly serving in the Army, Gene attended the University of Miami on the GI Bill. He moved to Miami permanently to be near the water and enjoy the Florida weather. He married Marilyn Melzer, and they had two children, Sharon and David. A natural entrepreneur, Gene owned and managed Tip Top Deli & Grocery and invested in real estate.
In his later years, Gene enjoyed traveling with his sister Betty Ann, snorkeling and visiting the Keys. He was interested in history and genealogy, was passionate about education, and remained a #1 fan of the Miami Hurricanes and Miami Dolphins. Gene was a man of immense humor, love, wisdom and famous one-liners. He is survived by his daughter Sharon (Henry); son David; brother Richard (Pam); grandchildren: Brenda (Taylor), Debra (Lance), Stephen and Kevin (Stefanie) and great-grandchildren: Sophia, Eden, Iris, Calvin and Wrenley.
