Myrna Eileen Branker

It is with great sadness that the family of Myrna Eileen Branker announce her death on Wednesday, November 29^th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was born Myrna Eileen Clarke to Clifford Clarke and Mavis Eileen Tucker on July 18^th, 1936, in George Town, Guyana, South America.

Myrna was a trailblazer who inspired and shaped the lives of many nurses in the United States and England. She trained as a midwife at the Whittington Hospital in London, England and went on to be the first black representative for the New York State Nurses Association in the United States. Along with her colleagues she spearheaded the campaign to give nurses the right to work 3-day shifts for 12 hours in the 70’s. She was also the first black and female administrator of The Brooklyn Hospital.

Myrna’s beloved son Noel Winston Henry Jones passed in 1986 and she leaves behind her beloved children: Garfield Mark Henry Jones, his wife Maribel Jones, her daughter Marcelle B. Jones, along with grandchildren: Paula Kellman, Michael Kellman, and David Kellman, and great grandchildren: Katherine Kellman, Shannon Kellman, Xaria Marsh and Noel Kellman. She also leaves her steadfast partner of the last 18 years, Joseph McCarthy as well as her long-lost sister Paula Clarke. We acknowledge the host of family (cousins, aunts, nieces, and nephews) Myrna adored from her homeland in Guyana, many now residing in Canada, Los Angeles, and England. Finally, the many, many, friends still here and those who have left, that Myrna kept close to her throughout her 87 years of life.

The family and friends will celebrate Myrna’s life on Monday, December 11^th, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care located at 1600 North University Drive
Pembroke Pines, FL 33024.
