Nam S. Suh

December 18, 1956~April 30, 2021

Nam Sook Suh was born to Ha-guen Woo and Bu Nam Kim on December 18th, 1956 in Andong South Korea. She passed into heaven on April 30th, 2021 in Miami Florida. Nam, (Gracia to her friends from church or Suh to her other friends) lived a life of love. She was many things in her life. A Sister, a wife, a mother, a mentor, an entrepreneur, a leader, a friend, and a grandmother. She was a person of great devotion to her faith and a regular fixture at the Koren Catholic Church in Hollywood Florida where she impacted the lives of many. Know in the church as caring and faithful follower of Christ, she traveled to sacred sites and places of worship to increase her understanding and practice of her faith.

As an entrepreneur, she opened and maintained several successful businesses over the years. She was as popular with her customers as she was with her employees, whom she treated like members of her family. She took pride in her business and received awards and recognition. In her home, was a framed certificate from former President George W. Bush, recognizing her achievements as an outstanding woman in business. As a single mother of three, maintaining a successful business was always a challenge, but one she met with tenacity and stalwart vigor.

She was a caring member of her community. In the building in which she lived, many of her neighbors shared stories of their feelings for her. A couple shared with us that she was the first friend that they made upon moving into the building. Others spoke to her kind and caring demeanor and how she was always there to help.

She was a mother of three. Roslyn, John, and Lucia. Nam was a devoted mother who worked hard to provide for her children. She raised her children to be strong and independent people, molded in her image. Through her example, she taught them value of hard work and all of her children display an outstanding work ethic in their chosen professions. She demonstrated for them a devotion to the Catholic church and the importance of faith. She was a loving mother who took pride in the accomplishments of her children. Her devotion to her children could possibly be best characterized by the way she traveled to Lucia’s wedding in October of 2020, even though her health was declining and the COVID 19 pandemic was raging across the country, she would not be deterred. She drove the three hours to the wedding to be there to walk her youngest down the aisle.

Nam was a loving grandmother who attended dance recitals, karate graduations, parties and holidays with her grandchildren Jesse and Elizabeth. She regularly made trips from her home in Tamarac to visit with them where could often be found watching the latest cartoon or playing video games. She introduced her grandchildren to the Korean culture, mostly through delicious food. She was an amazing cook, and prepared many Korean dishes, which were eagerly consumed by grateful children.

She was a devoted sister to Mi-Sook Zwiefler with whom she regularly had calls to stay in touch and share the details of their lives. She was always eager for news of her nephews Tobias and Marcus as well and looked forward to when they could next visit.

Nam liked to host parties. Many of her friends spoke of her parties with great fondness. She was a grand hostess and liked to make her guests feel comfortable and appreciated.

These words are an insufficient tribute to a life well lived. She was all these things I have mentioned and much, much more. Her story will be remembered by her children, grandchildren, and friends. They will remember a strong woman of immense faith. They will cherish the memories she made with them and the sacrifices she made for them, but mostly, they will remember that she loved them.
