Rosa Estela Garcia, lovingly known as Yeya, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, surrounded by those who loved her most. Born on May 29, 1943, in Santo Domingo, Rosa was filled with grace, resilience, and unwavering love for her family. Rosa is survived by her beloved husband, Angel Garcia, daughter Jeannie Garcia Lavernia, son Paul Garcia, and grandchildren Alexa Lavernia Perez, Kayla Garcia, Erika Lavernia and Gabriel Garcia.
Beautiful in every way – known to her family as “Ochio” and “Nini,” and most lovingly as “Yeya”. Rosa held many cherished roles throughout her life. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, mother and grandmother. Her warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit will be remembered and celebrated by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She met the love of her life in New York, where their journey together began. They eventually settled in New Jersey to raise their children, before making their way to Miami, where Rosa would lovingly help raise her grandchildren, and build a life full of memories.
Before becoming a grandmother, Rosa was a devoted and adoring mother. She took immense pride in her children’s accomplishments, and in her daughter’s piano lessons and dance recitals, and wholeheartedly supported her son’s baseball career and achievements. Her love and encouragement were unwavering, shaping a foundation of confidence and care that her children carry with them to this day.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Yeya was the heart of the family. She had a passion for cooking, a love for watching baseball, and was a truly talented seamstress. But above all, Yeya’s greatest joy came from being a grandmother. She went above and beyond for her grandchildren, pouring love, time, and care into every moment she shared with them. She made us feel cherished and supported, always putting others first, and giving more than she had to.
Rosa Estela Garcia leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and strength. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and everyone who was lucky enough to know her.
She will be missed deeply, but her love will stay with us forever.
