Sam had a connection to the film “Remember the Titans” starring Denzel Washington. Denzel portrayed the football coach at that school and Sam taught there at the same time. He was a good friend of that coach. Sam was quick witted and had a wry sense of humor. Sam was very giving and will be greatly missed.

Sam was the dearest sweetest man and it has been an honor to have him as a father-in-law and grandfather to his only grandchild, Bridget. He made a big difference to the lives of many — especially his former students as he took a strong interest in guiding their lives to a better future. He took exceptional care of his lifetime partner and spouse, father-in-law Gerry Dean. We love him and he will be missed by all.

I spent 8 or 10 years talking on the phone helping him deal with his challenges usually lengthy conversations multiple times a day in some cases . He was a very kind and loving man. He will be missed! In his last few days I would call and leave him a voicemail, so he could hear my voice. I love you Sam. Georgia
