I am very sorry to hear about Stan’s death. We worked together at Air Florida on the DC 9 and B 737. He was always a gentleman and very professional pilot. There could have been no better qualified pilot to end up at the FAA as an airline pilot examiner. Thank you for being yourself Stan.

Sadly, it has been too many years since I last spoke to Stan, but I will always remember flying with him at Air Florida so many years ago back in the 1970’s. He was a very professional Captain, and also one of the nicest and easy going person I had ever met. I particularly remember my very last conversation with Stan, it was when Midway Airlines went bankrupt and most pilots were then searching for a position with Southwest Airlines. But Stan said he had had enough of the airlines by then, and decided instead to join the FAA here at home in Fort Lauderdale. So I asked him why he decided not to take a Southwest position and he quickly replied that he had had enough of commuting just to get to work, enough of all the hotels, enough of the crazy schedules etc. Then he said ” And most of all I get to sleep in my own bed at home every night ” He obviously had a lot more sense than the rest of us. So he obviously went on to have another successful career , this time with the FAA.
Sadly, it seems like I am now receiving so many similar reports of my old flying colleges that have recently passed away.
God Bless Stan. With Condolences, Art Lynch

Stan “the man” Crum. I worked with Stan for 15 years. Always a gentleman, looking out for the well being of his coworkers. Because of Covid we have not been back to the office. But I know there will be a hole that will be hard to fill. I take pleasure in the fact he was a friend that I had the pleasure to meet! May God Bless his family. I know you can only see black and white right now, but the colors will come back one day. If there is anything you need please reach out to his work family. We are here for you.

Stan was so much more to me than just a friend. He was my motivator, my best cheerleader, my support system. Anything I ever strived for at work, Stan was always right there to give me positive thoughts. Always the first to congratulate me and to wish me well in anything I did. He wasn’t just a father figure, he was a GREAT friend who played an important role in my life. His compassion for others was always on display and never forgotten. He will be missed, but always loved. Rest In Peace my friend. My condolences and prayers go out to the family.

All the tributes above take the words right out of my mouth and are right on.

As consistently mentioned, Stan was such a pleasure to fly and be with. One of my favorite memories with Stan – while living in FLL, my wife Marilyn with our 5 year old daughter Rachael in tow would make the 7 hour drive to visit her parents in Live Oak and we’d schedule it for them to stay at the good old Gold Key Hotel in MCO on my MCO layovers in order to split the drive in half. Fond memories of Stan hanging out by the pool with us watching Rachael jump and play in the pool. He was like ‘Uncle’ Stan. Very fond memories of those days. Condolences to the Crum Family.

What a great Man, Captain, Check Airman and Friend. All of my leadership skills are a direct result of the way Stan handle himself on the flight deck and with the people he interacted with. To this day I think of Stan every time I go flying. I am truly a richer person for having know him.

Fair winds on your final flight west my friend. Thanks for all the help.

There are many good people in the world; but Stan Crum was the best of them. A true and genuine good man, good soul, good human being. His passing has left a giant void that we can all best honor by being our better selves. I was lucky to be Stan’s First Officer and will always remember the fun times we had flying together. You will be missed Stan. We send our heartfelt prayers and condolenelces to Stan’s family. They were blessed to have him.

I remember first meeting Stan when he came to the Miami FSDO that later became a CMO. Stan and I where both assigned to Miami Air for certificate management, as well as many other team members. Stan liked to laugh and there were those among us that liked to make him laugh. Stan was an eternal gentleman and professional. I am so proud to have worked with this wonderful man. He is missed, already.

Dear Candace & family,
We were so sorry to hear of your loss. Stan was a great guy who we remember well from the Air Florida/Midway days. We both remember him for being a true gentleman with a ready smile and engaging personality. We were so happy for him when he joined the FAA after those chaotic airline years. The FAA was lucky to have him and his pilot friends were glad to know that they had a friend in the FAA!
Our deepest condolences to you all.

I wish I had known Stan when I was flying. I know I would have enjoyed flying together. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to meet him until I came to the South Florida office where he worked. Stan was alone one day after work when I first came through just getting the lay of the land. I stopped and introduced myself, and we had a great conversation. Stanley, immediately made me feel welcome and comfortable. His gentle smile and genuine thoughtfulness just radiated from him, and I could tell he was at peace with himself, and God. That peace was evident in how he interacted with everyone. I only knew him for one year, but I wish I had known him my whole life. He was that kind of man.
I will miss him. But, I know we will meet again, and we will have eternity to get to know one another.
Thank you for sharing your husband, father, and friend with us at the FAA.

As a MIA FAA Inspector, I met Stan at the Miramar office in 2017. We started talking about my travels/ bucket list around the world and Stan supported every place I had been and every place I had planned to go. After every trip, I had to give Stan a full rundown of my adventure. He even informed me of a movie called “The Bucket List” which included places I had been and planned to be. Almost daily we discussed the bucket list and plotted my next adventure. He even took an adventure up north with his wife after our many discussions and we discussed his trip in depth. He was a pleasure to know, talk with and be around and he will be sorely missed. I have lost my friend and fellow bucket list Pal. His shoes will be difficult to fill.

I send my deepest heartfelt condolences to all of Stan’s family. I cannot begin to express with adequate words the impact that Stan had on me and his entire FAA family. Stan and I had a running joke about him coming to my cubicle and “stealing” my candy. He would say “Look Jennifer, there is a puppy.” I’d look away and he would grab a handful. I told him “Stan, you don’t have to steal it” and he would say “Its more fun that way!” That said, he was always a true gentleman and always rose to the occasion whenever one of us was in need of his kindness and support. The impact he had on aviation safety will continue long past his departure. He has earned his permanent wings and has now become a guardian to watch over all airman. Rest in peace Stanley Crum…we’ll take it from here.

“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Dear Crum family and friends,

I am honoured to have flown with Stan at Carnival Air. I can’t say anything that hasn’t been said. I’m in awe of Stan and the grounding, calming, gentle (but very capable) presence he brought to being our Captain and role model. I really love what was said previously of Stan being at peace with himself, and God. Stan, I aspire to be more like you, thank you for being you.
My heartfelt condolences to Stanley’s family for your loss.
Stan showed us how it should be done.
Rest easy good gentleman and give a hug to our other (too soon) departed KW family.
