Sylvia V. D’Souza, a loving mother and grandmother, of Pembroke Pines, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 1, 2020.
Sylvia was born on June 20, 1927, in Karachi, Pakistan, to the late John M. and Lucy D’Costa.
In her younger years, Sylvia was a sprinter and participated in the Indian Olympics. She was a PT instructor at the Convent of Jesus and Mary, New Delhi where she met dad. Dad at that time was posted to Army HQ, New Delhi. She had to adapt to the life of a Army officer’s wife. After a series of postings, they returned to Delhi. She loved cooking and entertaining. She was a very people person and worked with the church community in many activities.
When Sylvia’s children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist. It was usual for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked. Sylvia was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She will always be remembered with much love and will be missed deeply.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Vincent D’Souza; siblings, Charles Roderiquez, Julie D’Costa, Agnes Christopher, Anthony D’Costa, and Joseph D’Costa.
Survived by her caring sons, Vijay D’Souza and his wife, Joyce and Anil D’Souza and his wife, Kala’ grandchildren, Sophia D’Souza, Samuel D’Souza, Cassandra D’Souza, and Devanshi D’Souza; and sister-in-law, Thelma D’Costa.

Sylvia Aunty!
You were a long time neighbor, dearest friend and confidante for Ammi, or Choudhry Aunty in Vasant Kunj Flats. You and Ammi connected over phone every week after you moved to the US. Ammi would lovingly water your plants, hoping you will return one day. I remember bringing freshly baked cake when India had a cricket victory. I have also heard that you came, sat at my parent’s dining table and cried a river when the indian team had a close loss! Will always miss you! Glad I called a week before and chatted with you! Even happier that my sister Jyoti (Jiji) and her husband, Ravi visited with you After Ammi passed on. Vijay and Anil, you were raised by a wonderful Mom! Heartfelt condolences.

Sylvia, we will always cherish the good times we had together. We have known Sylvia over the years when she was in Delhi. She was part and parcel of our group which had dinner parties with sing song and games. She was the first and a regular benefactor to our Soul Group which looks after the education of the underprivileged children of our parish. She also extended a helping hand by donating a microwave to the rectory. Punctuality was her trademark whether at church or a party. Thank you Sylvia for your generosity and may you rest in peace.

I’d met aunty a couple of times at Anil’s home in Delhi.Uncle was on oxygen at that time but a true army man to the core he refused to be bedridden.Aunty had cooked us all a great dinner.I remember her as a very alive and aware person(For that matter uncle too) and it was easy to see where the values Anil carried at his core which makes him such a wonderful human being came from.Goodbye aunty you will be fondly remembered and missed.

My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved Families..God give them
Strength to bear the loss of their Darling Mum..
Sylvia will always be remembered as a loving and warm hearted person. Happy go lucky no matter what the situation. We spent many wonderful times together, sharing meals, sing song, games you name it and we did it…there was never a dull moment.. She was a
Very Generous Soul, would love to help the NEEDY . Her passion was to support the Underpriviledged
Children….I cannot stop singing
her praises. One thing I can never
forget is when she made a grand
entrance into Church on a Sunday
morning so beautifully dressed. She was missed when she went away to live with her Families, now she will be missed even more.
May her Soul rest in peace
