Thomas Charles Porteus, Jr., “Tommy”, 39, entered into eternal rest suddenly on Sunday, September 28, 2014 in Pembroke Pines, Florida, due to complications from diabetes. Born October 12, 1974 in Buffalo, he was the son of Thomas Charles, Sr. and Charlene Straba Porteus. He was a graduate of Lockport High School, Niagara County Community College and Florida International University. Tom worked for the FBI in West Virginia from 1997 to 2001, when he moved to South Florida to work for the Miami Dade Sheriff’s Office as a crime scene investigator, latent division. He was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, NY Yankees and the Duke Blue Devils. Tom enjoyed golfing, playing softball, baseball and still played his weekly hockey game for the South Florida Hornets. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Dylan Thomas Porteus, his pride and joy; former wife and Dylan’s mother, Myra Cruz; his sister, Renee Rev. William James Hardy; nephew, Justin Lamont; niece, Jenna Lamont; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He also leaves behind many special friends who reside in Western New York, West Virginia and Florida. Tom was predeceased by his sister, Julie and grandparents, Thomas H. and Elizabeth Porteus and Charles and Dorothy Straba. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Friday, January 9, 2015, starting at 6:00 p.m. with a Tributes of a Lifetime Service at 7:00 p.m. at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, University Drive Chapel. His brother in-law, The Rev. William James Hardy, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an educational trust fund for Tom’s son, Dylan, c/o William J.
