Balikes, Thomas N., 89, a U.S. Air Force Veteran, of Hialeah, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 22, 2014. He was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1925, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Nakita Balikes and Eve Zannis. Thomas is survived by his devoted wife, Katy Balikes; daughter, Jennifer Balikes; and sons, Joseph Balikes and James Balikes. An urn committal service will take place at a later date.

I just found out about the passing of Tom Balikes. Tom was one of the friendliest, nicest most personable people I ever met. He was also a terrific athlete and gentleman. May he rest in peace.

Tommy was a friend of my family for many years. My Dad had a great respect for him, as I did. When Tommy became Assistant States Attorney my dad was as proud for him as if Tommy was his son.Once my Dad and I saw Tommy downtown and I said, “Hello Tommy.” my Dad said you call him Judge Balikes now. I balkled and said that I had know Tommy since I was a little boy and always called him Tommy. My Dad replyed, “He’s a Judge now, you call him Judge.” Judge Balikes was outstanding in everything he attempted. He was also an outstanding role model for Greek American kids everywhere.
Rita & I are deeply saddened by his loss.
