Una Cox sunrise May 24th, 1918, to sunset august 9th, 2022, was born in Portland, Jamaica to Simon and Maudlin Brimm. After her mother’s passing in 1927, she was cared for by her grand-aunt. She relocated to Kingston and worked at Grace Kennedy and Royal Mail for most of her adult life. She gave birth to her only child Yvonne Lawes, whom she nurtured to adulthood with the support of family. She followed her daughter migrating to the U.S. in the 1960s.
Una worked at Shepherd Home in Brooklyn, N.Y. for many years before retiring. She then joined her daughter Yvonne who had retired from American Express, then owned and operated a Day Care Center (Kiddie Cottage, Brooklyn, N.Y.), for 21 years. Due to the declining health of her daughter, they both relocated to Miramar, Florida, in the 1990s. Una and Yvonne were able to enjoy several entertaining years in Florida (cruises, outdoor events, etc.) before Yvonne’s passing in December 2020.
She leaves behind Grand Nephew Derek Brimm, Cousin Dianna Davis, both of whom cared for her until her passing. Also mourning her passing are many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
She will sadly be missed, but our love for her remains and always will. Aunt Una has been blessed with 104 years and so many families and friends. Thanks for all the memories, love and support that she enjoyed with family, friends and neighbors.
