Virginia Werner (nee Eccli), died on Oct 11, 2022 at age 91 from complications of old age. She was born on Dec 4, 1930 in Fort Lee, NJ, the first of five children of Mario G. Eccli and Irene R. Eccli (nee Heft). Being the oldest of several children who grew up during the great depression and then WWII, she was given care responsibilities early and learned to be quite frugal. As a teenager she attended Holy Angeles Academy nearby in Fort Lee. She was the president of her class. Mid way through a fifth baby arrived, Eugene. As the oldest child Virginia learned to be the primary care-giver, to help her mother who had three other children to attend to (William, Yvonne, and Germaine) as well as being supportive of the family business.
After high school graduation Virginia went on to graduate from Berkeley Secretarial School in New York City (NYC), & worked as an executive secretary for a time at American Can Co in NYC. She later worked for Rolls-Royce in Bergen County. She was first married to Ray Lagamosino & then received an annulment at the time living in River Edge NJ. She then lived in Atlantic Beach, Long Island, NY when married & widowed from Hank Werner, a construction executive in New York City. Unfortunately Hank, a helpful supporter of the then-retired Irene Eccli, died early. She kept the last name from her second marriage to Hank Werner. Her third marriage was to Tom Hayes, living in Virginia Beach & became divorced there.
After retirement Virginia volunteered for many years for Meals On Wheels, helping the needy with warm food most days. An avid bridge player, she met and struck up a 30-year friendship with James (Jim) Barnes. They both came to live at John Knox Village, Pompano Beach, FL in 2004. John Knox is a retirement community. Each had an apartment there in Village Towers. They were happy companions, and enjoyed the bridge club, the weekly bingo games, and other activities offered in this community. Ultimately Virginia moved to the Assisted Living facility and then to Woodlands, benefitting from the excellent care at each location. She was popular, friendly & had quite a few boyfriends! She was very sociable & always one you would invite to your parties. Many would describe Virginia as intelligent, alert, independent, and quite feisty.
The family would like to offer our appreciation to the staff at John Knox Village for creating a supportive environment where Virginia could spend her last years.

With sorrow, I read of Virginia’s passing last October 11.
I met Virginia at a church CYO club and were married three years later (1960) at Madonna RC Church in Fort Lee, NJ. We lived in an apartment in Riveredge for four years, then purchased a house in Washington Township, both in NJ. The marriage ended when I was granted an uncontested civil divorce after 11 years of marriage, when she then married Henry Werner. After she had been widowed eight years later (1979) a religious annulment of our marriage was granted, by the Roman Catholic Church Rockville Center Tribunal.
It appears that Virginia led a full and happy life in Virginia and Pompano Beaches. I am glad to be so informed.
My condolences to sister Germaine, brother Eugene and family.
