On January 13, 2023, Wayne Harry Wobb went home to his Savior after a long battle with illness. He was born March 23, 1940, in Dorseyville, Pennsylvania, to Harry and Anna Wobb, fourth in line of eight children. He grew up working on his family farm, tending to the goats while starting his budding salesman career selling vegetables and milk. In school, he was a member of the cross-country and championship soccer teams. Wayne graduated from Washington Trade School and spent time in the Marine Corps as an MP, bodyguard, and driver. He was also a Helicopter crew chief for the USS Boxer. Upon leaving the service, Wayne established himself as an enthusiastic car salesman, and a few years after moving to Florida in 1971, he became the owner of Wobb’s Wheels on Wheels, where he specialized in customizing wheelchair vans, exporting cars to the Islands, and taking care of private customers.
Wayne was a teller of tall tales that oftentimes turned out to be accurate, an avid gardener who was known to nurture any plant back to bloom, an accomplished cook who started out cooking steak to the perfect temperature of burnt and ended up being the head chef of the house, a passionate spoon player, and a “Dad” or “Pappy” or “friend” that everyone could count on for fun at a party and a story to go with it.
As a Deacon and Elder at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Wayne was happiest serving God’s people. He often cooked for the congregation and spent many years leading the transportation ministry, driving the van to pick up those who needed a ride to church. He was also very active in Evangelism Explosion and used the gifts God gave him to share the gospel with everyone he sold a car to and anyone he thought needed to hear about the Lord. He also had a heart for women in unplanned pregnancies, so he supported, alongside his wife Dottie, Hope Women’s Centers in various capacities. He was the past President and a lifetime Member of the Hollywood Kiwanis Club, helping to build the Kiwanis Park at Park Road and Johnson Street.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Dottie, of 55 years. His siblings, Ron Wobb, Yvonne Wisnek, and Victoria Birnbaum. His four children, Gary (Denise) Wobb, Amy (Jason) Reed, Rebecca (Bill) Ross, and Darren (Lara) Wobb. His ten grandchildren, Nicole (Matt) Maslak, Samantha (Kent) Anderson, Vincent (Jess) Wobb, Amanda Cerny (Johannes Bart), Stephen (Rebecca) Wobb, Tripp Ross, Maile Wobb, Ethan Wobb, Bill Kumer, Mike Kumer, and his three (almost 4) great-grandchildren, Julia and Justin Maslak, Caleb and baby girl Wobb (S.Wobb).
On Saturday, January 21, 2023, an 11:00 am service will be held at Park Road Presbyterian Church, 500 N Park Rd, Hollywood, FL 33021. A celebration of life for Wayne with lunch will be served in the upstairs Fellowship Hall following the service.
In Lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Hope Women’s Centers. PO Box 290061, Davie, Florida 33329. www.friendsofhope.com
