On March 11, 2026, William “Bill” Duffy, 88, of Pembroke Pines, went home to be with the Lord. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Kevin Colquhoun, and his grandsons and their spouses, Ryan and Cristina, and Jacob and fiancé Sara. He is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife of 55 years, Eileen.
Born in the Bronx and raised in Brooklyn, Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army as part of the Military Police Corps. He went on to work as a Corrections Officer, spending 5 years with Nassau County and 20 years with the New York City Department of Corrections (including, notably, Rikers Island), from where he retired in 1990. Tough and steady, he carried out demanding work with unwavering dedication.
In retirement, Bill stayed active and oh so curious. He took on new jobs, drove the church bus for a while, and loved learning–whether through piano lessons with his daughter Sharon, Spanish classes, or reading a good book. He also loved being physically active and often went bowling, swimming, bike riding, or walking. He and Eillen shared a love of travel and spent their later years exploring the world together.
Bill’s faith in Jesus was central to who he was. Throughout their marriage, he and Eileen sought the Lord together daily and prayed faithfully for others. Bill was at church every Sunday and cherished the friendships he found in his church small groups.
Above all, Bill adored his family. His wife Eileen was his best friend and other half. For 55 years, the inseparable duo showed everyone what true love looks like and built a beautiful life together centered around their daughter, Sharon. Weekly, they spent time together with Sharon, and barely a day went by without them talking to each other.
If you ever met Bill, you know he had a bit of a tough exterior. But if you wanted to find the soft spot, you knew to talk about his grandsons. His grandsons, who affectionately called him “Papa,” were his joy. He shared his love of sports with them, particularly hockey (Panthers and Rangers) and baseball (Marlins and Mets), and could be regularly found texting them about game scores and team prospects. He loved attending games with his boys over the years, including the Army/Navy game (go Army!) and tons of Panthers, Marlins, and Hagerty High School baseball games.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and love that lives on in his family and in the many lives he touched.
