Yvonne A. Lawes

May 04, 1939~December 11, 2020

Yvonne Lawes was born on May 4, 1939 in Kingston, Jamaica, to Una Brimm. A hard-working woman, she graduated from CAST (College of Arts, Science and Technology) in Kingston, and worked there before migrating to New York in 1963. Here she embarked on a successfully long career with the American Express Company from which she retired. During that period, she advanced her academia by graduating from Brooklyn College where she obtained her bachelors and master’s degrees. She continued her pursuits in business by opening and operating a family Day Care Center in Brooklyn, that enhanced and catered to the community needs. Her compassion and dedication to the needs of the children she served earned her a respected place in the community. Due to health reasons, she relocated to Miramar, South Florida, where she resided with her mother Una Brimm until her passing.

Yvonne lived a vibrant life, and she will always be remembered for her many, many, lively parties and festivities. She was always jovial, while helping and catering to others.

Left to cherish her beautiful memories are her mother, Una Brimm; brother, a sister, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She will be missed greatly.

My beloved aunt Yvonne – may you rest peacefully in paradise. You were a joyful, loving and kind person to everyone that you knew and a special auntie to me. We shared the same birthday and many similar traits. You are survived by a wonderful mother who was constantly by your side and even on that fateful day. I will always remember the special interest that you took in me after the untimely death of my father, and your brother. Your kindness and generosity did not go unnoticed. The loving weekends that were spent with you at your home in Brooklyn filled a space that was left vacant with his passing and for that, I’m thankful and deeply grateful for you. Thank you! I love you and wish you peace in your eternal sleep. You will live forever in my heart. God bless…
