Anita Joyce Cody, “Granny”, of Palm Springs North, Florida, passed away on May 29, 2026.

Anita was born in Long Island, New York, to Anastacia and Gerald Fiedler. Her love for education and reading lasted throughout her life. After moving to South Florida, she became a registered nurse through the Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. While working, she helped thousands of children as the school nurse for Immaculate Conception Catholic School and as a counselor for the Archdiocese of Miami. Always in pursuit of learning, she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Miami and worked at the Mailman Center for Child Development in the Pediatric Endocrine and Adolescent Medicine departments. Her interest in Oriental Medicine lead her to study and graduate from the Chinese Medicine Institute. Her home housed a library with subjects that spanned from science, medicine, and self-help to comic strips and spiritual growth.

Anita matched her passion for knowledge with her love and devotion to family and community. She built a life for herself and others centered on family, faith, and service. She was a constant presence for her loved ones, always overjoyed to share a visit, phone call, or texts with countless hearts and happy faces. Holiday gatherings were annual highlights, with delicious meals, great conversation, and her famous cheesecake and apple pies. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lecturer and taught special needs CCD and first communion classes at Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of the Lakes parishes. In retirement, she volunteered at Fairchild Tropical Gardens, teaching students on field trips and educating visitors at the Butterfly Garden. She impacted innumerable lives with her leadership, support, and unwavering belief in being positive.

She is survived by her daughter Anita “Joy” (Mark), her sons William “Billy” (Dena), Gerald “Jerry” (Joelle), and Tyrone “Ty” (Gabrielle), along with nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, William “Bill” Cody, her parents, and her sister Rosemary.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bonaventure in Davie, Florida.
