Anna Romano Silano
Devoted mother and grandmother, Anna Silano of Pembroke Pines, Florida passed away on December 14, 2013, as a result of an unexpected fall at her residence. Anna was born in New York City on January 6, 1929. At age 21, she married Salvatore Silano and together they embarked on a lifetime of love having one son, Robert John Silano. When Anna was 34, she and Sal moved from Eastchester, New York to North Miami Beach, Florida. During her tenure in North Miami Beach, she worked in the retail clothing business until her retirement in 1985. Her son Rob, married Barbara nee Brennan in 1988 and settled in Menlo Park, California. Her granddaughter Sara Ashton was born in 1989 and her birth was quickly followed by the birth of her grandson, Matthew Robert, in 1992. Thus began Anna life of travel to California to visit her son Robert, daughter in law Barbara and grandchildren. She would often stay for weeks at a time and was such an important part of her grandchildren’s lives. She was a terrific story-teller and was able to share memories and culture with her grandchildren. Sara and Matthew will long remember her Italian Christmas traditions. Anna also served as a living example of what it meant to be dedicated to her family. As a resident of Florida for over 50 years, Anna enjoyed southern living and would not live anywhere else. She was involved in volunteer services at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church until her death. Her church family was a vital part of her life. She will be remembered for excellent Italian cooking, her sense of humor, and self-sufficiency. Anna will be greatly missed by her family and friends in Florida and California. Anna is survived by her son, Robert, daughter-in law Barbara, grandchildren: Sara and Matthew “Teddy” of Menlo Park, CA. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Ret. Lt. Col. USAF Joseph Romano, of Georgia and her sisters; Mildred Delgrosso of Oklahoma, Rose D’Ariano of Florida, Lena Bonaro, also of Florida and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in her name. Please join us for a celebration of Anna’s life on Saturday, March 1st, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 701 N. Hiatus Rd., Pembroke Pines, Florida. The memorial celebration will be followed by a gravesite service at Southern Memorial Park, 15000 W. Dixie Hwy, North Miami, Florida.

Who will we talk to and call for advice, to vent and your great knowledge of Italian cooking. We spoke everyday while I was either driving home or to work meetings. Sara will miss not calling you during her lunch time at work. Matt always wanted you to attend one of his college football games, but we know traveling to cold climates is not in your vocabulary. We sent you many photographs and write ups about him and his team. You couldn’t believe your little grandson grew to be 6’8″, over 300 Lbs. Don’t worry we understand how you did not want to live with us in California, as you said many times; you had your own life there in Florida. Now be with Dad and catch up on old times. Love, Rob

Mom:
Many things have changed since you passed. Sara is married to a great man, having 3 great grandchildren for you and Dad. They live a great life in Scottsdale. Matt “ Teddy” your small 6’8” grandson, married to a beautiful woman, now having a great grandchild. Now you have 4 great grandchildren. Matt follows my legacy in law enforcement, as his wife too. You and Dad would be so proud of All of them, as I am.
Barb passed away one year after you. I continue to serve my community in public safety as I have done for over 40 years. Last year I remarried to a wonderful, kind, and beautiful woman. A few years younger, but, we are happy together.
I’m writting now since I will be traveling to Florida in a few days. Every trip to Florida, I think of you and Dad often of the great times and memories. Until we all meet again, to enjoy those good dinners, drinking plenty of wine, and watching over your legacy. Love you; Rob and all your clan❤️

Wow: 12 years since your passing! Our family grows. Matt wife Athena, is having a girl in March. Their son Tony is the image of our Italian Heritage. A strong and solid boy. Sara continues to live in Scottsdale with her family of 5. Benny, the oldest, plays baseball like his Dad, a former pro player. Cam follows Sara love for gymnastics. Baylor, just a sweet little girl. I was in Florida in November, back there, I could feel yours and Dad presence. A hard place to visit without you two. Being older I understand the meaning of ” family and good friends”. I am so blessed to have so many. Thank you and Dad for teaching me so much,
Love,

Hi Pica!
I’m sitting here in my kitchen getting out my ingredients so that I can make Pumpkin Pie for my babies. I’m wearing your necklace today and can feel your presence. I miss you even more around the Holidays. I think of what a gift it was to have you home with us for that month so that we could make memories together and just enjoy the magic of the Holiday season together. Thank you for the unconditional love you always gave me. “One day at a time” is what you always told me. I can still hear your voice whenever I start to get overwhelmed with the craziness 3 kids can bring. Miss you and love you. Forever and always
