Correll was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 7, 1943 and attended Boston University on behalf of the Army under the Army Specialized Training Program ASTP. It was during this time in 1944 that he met his future wife, Joyce Evelyn Rutledge, on a subway in Boston. They became engaged before he was deployed to Europe to serve during WWII. He served with Company E of the 353rd Infantry Regiment of the 89th Infantry Division in France, Luxembourg, and Czechoslovakia, and with the 42nd Rainbow Division in Austria and the 232nd Infantry Regiment in Germany. Correll was discharged from the Army on April 8, 1946 and married Joyce on July 7, 1946. They moved to Hollywood, FL in 1947. It was here where Correll built his own home, a little at a time, buying building supplies after each payday. They started a family here in 1949 with their first born, Teresa Ann, followed by Carolyn 1953, Richard 1954 and Robert 1956. They raised their family in Hollywood. On May 12, 1948, Correll went to work for the Burroughs Corporation now called Unisys Corporation, initially as a serviceman for adding and bookkeeping machines. In the late 1960’s in the new age of computers, Correll became a computer programmer in which field he remained until retirement in 1985 after 37 years. After retirement, Correll and Joyce enjoyed taking trips around the United States in their conversion van and spending time with their family and friends. It was during his retirement that Correll took up the hobby of writing, and as a novice author, published his first book, Ghost Church, in 1998, followed later by its prequel, Sirena, and sequel, Alien Son, both in 2002. Correll also published FE’s, Techs and Jackie in 2000, which combined a fictitious storyline with some actual experiences during his working years at Burroughs. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends at Tropical Acres Restaurant on July 7, 1996. Correll lost his wife, Joyce, on January 1, 2000 after 53 wonderful years of marriage, but had the love of his family to fall back on.
