It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Dacia Maria Mendonca Brasil da Costa. Dacia passed away on June 06, 2021, just two days before her 95th birthday. She lived a long life surrounded by the love of her family. Not only her immediate family, but from the extended family spread out around the world as well. She was known and is remembered by her bubbly outlook in life. Always happy, always welcoming of others and simply spreading love and joy throughout all those she saw or met.
She was born in Sao Jorge in the Azores, and grew up in Madeira. She later moved to Horta, Faial in the Azores where she met the handsome young man, Luis Costa, who would later become her husband in 1949. After many years of living in the Azores, Dacia and Luis, along with their two children Aida and Rui, moved to Lima, Peru where she would live the best 10 years of her life and where her daughter Gina was born. After 10 years in Peru, the family was transferred to St.Thomas, United States Virgin Islands, and 10 years later the family was transferred to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Dacia was happiest during all these years by traveling the world on summer vacations. Family always came first, and it was important to travel and visit the family afar. Dacia and Luis would later retire in Delray Beach, Florida in 1992.
Dacia was predeceased by her daughter Aida who died in 1995 and by her husband of 58 years in 2007. She is survived by her son Rui, daughter Gina, her six grandchildren who were the light of her life and two great grandchildren, Carter and Hayes. She will be deeply missed by all. Rest in Peace.
