July 08, 1921~September 29, 2020

Dhani’s early childhood years were spent in Unity and at Mahaica Hospital Compound, where her father worked as Dr. Rose’s assistant, finding a cure for leprosy.  (Dr. Rose was the late Governor General David Rose’s father).  Dhani being the eldest child was instrumental in helping her mother to care for her siblings, while attending school. At an early age, she attended sewing classes, learned to play the piano and attended catechism classes every Sunday at Mrs. Rose’s home. She often talked about how much they looked forward to Sundays and receiving English chocolates, etc.

Dhani’s parents later moved to Shell Road, Kitty where her Dad, a Chemist, opened a Drugstore.  She attended Carnegie School of Home Economics and also attended Burns Presbyterian Church.

At the age of 27, Dhani  married Parasram Persaud, aka Pancho and moved to Essequibo Coast.  It didn’t take too long for her to adapt from the city lifestyle to the country lifestyle, where she was liked by all of the family and friends.  She became a true and devoted Hindu which she followed to the end of her life. Pancho was a businessman, poet and musician, and he loved to entertain Dhani.  Picture this:  Pancho reciting his poems to her, and serenading her with his violin and guitar with songs like “Danny Boy” and “Hey Good Looking, What you Got Cooking”; and when she would be upset at him, he would sing to her “I know that Someday You’ll Want Me to Want You”. Their continued togetherness of harmony and unity lasted until 1974 when she lost her “Panch”.

Dhani was a great cook and enjoyed making special dishes and was always willing to teach everyone.  She was a caring, compassionate and devoted mother and her children came first on her list.  In earlier days she would send the helper to school with snacks when we were not well.  Every morning she awoke us with her harmonious voice and greeted us with hugs and kisses. She always was ready to help anyone in need.

She settled in the U.S. in 1987 and enjoyed her remaining years with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored.

She will be missed dearly by ALL.  May she Rest in Peace.

A Private Service will be held.

You have reserved that for your Pancho Dev and kaishee and rest families who have gone before you. .Farewell Gone but will not be forgot

My Deepest Hear-felt sympathy to my beautiful cousins, Mo, Shobha, Lochi, Vivekananda, and Thirat and Beautiful Pillar. Namastey! I am sadden by your lost of both Aunty Myni, and Devindra. Now, Both Aunt Myni and Dev, both are look down from above, smiling at us. Too wonderful souls that said goodbye, to us within a week’s time. They took winds and flew away, and is now free from the burdens of matter and body. It seems that gentle-hearted Dev, said, ” Mum, it is okay now to come on the other side since God is now calling… now”. Look now, you and I will now travel together”. My prayers are with you during this time of grief. I pray to our divine God that brought us all together as a family, and to whom we see as our first parents. May God as this divine force of compassion; wisdom, and love, protect and guide them both to a place of everlasting love, peace, happiness and prosperity. You, as devoted children to your mother, are exemplary, and I applaud you. You touch my soul of the love that you have demonstrated as a family. You will always have the blessings of your mother. As any faith will teach you; those who respect their parents, and honor them, will always have God’s love and grace. Also, I pray that God bless those wonderful individuals who made it possible for me to see the funeral ceremony. Know that you are always in my thoughts; my heart and in my prayers. The image of my Beautiful Aunt, Myni, who loved her brother James, and my mother, Kakai, will be cherished. Also, those memories of you all – from my childhood days – are still precious gems that remains in my heart. My Dearest Aunt, Myni and My Dearest Cousin Dev, you will be remembered for your brilliance, may your light shine ever more so brightly. May God be with you, and may his strength carry you. God Bless You! Seeta Rama, and My Pranams (Respect).

Dear Mohini, Loch, Shoba, Terat and Veak.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
My lasting impression of Auntie is that of a little boy going into the shop and seeing this beautiful, well dressed lady speaking perfect English, which was uncommon for Indian women at that time.
We were so fortunate to reconnect in Florida and enjoy her charming company.
May God bless and grant her soul eternal peace.

Dhani has left us with a quiet legacy which will be difficult, if not impossible to duplicate.
My family will miss Mom and we are so sorry that she left us but she is with Dad who is serenading her, He waited for her for a long, long time so they are once again happy together. When last Winston and I visited Mom, it was a joyous time but then COVID-19 stopped us from visiting again, Winston considers it a privilege to have performed for one of her birthdays. She loved his guitar playing and we always talk about the fun time she had at that occasion. I remember her from Essequibo Coast and I remember dad also. Mom used to give me candies when I stopped in on my way from school and Dad always had a joke. Two peas in a pod, finally back together again. To her three amazing daughters, Winston and I will continue to love you and we are here if you ever need us. My mother in Toronto have known your entire family for a very, very long time and she is sad and wanted me to let the family know that she has many fond memories hanging out at the shop in Essequibo with Mom. She sends her love to the entire family. May all of you find peace when reminiscing the countless fond memories that can only be created and displayed by a Mother’s unconditional love for her children.

Always here for all of you.

Mo, Shoba, Loch…my sincerest and heartfelt condolences. Grannie was a mother to all. You don’t know how blessed you all are to have had her. I know losing her feels like the roots of your life’s bloodline left with her, but you have each other and your memories will carry you through. God bless you all.

Gran,
I attended your final farewell prayer at your Hindu temple today. It was so beautiful & although my grief is mighty, the ceremony filled me some serenity.

To everyone that attended my Granny’s services whether in vivo or virtually, thank you for your thoughtful words here, there, & everywhere. ✨💙✨

The words below are not mine but they truly capture my deep sentiments about the loss of a grandparent!

“ Los abuelos nunca mueren, se vuelven invisibles y duermen para siempre en lo profundo de nuestro corazón. E incluso hoy, los extrañamos y daríamos cualquier cosa por escuchar sus historias, sentir sus caricias y mirar esos ojos llenos de infinita ternura. Si bien los abuelos tienen la alegría de vernos nacer y crecer como un hecho de la vida, debemos ser testigos de cómo envejecen y se despiden de este mundo.”

¡Te quiero inmensamente, mi querida abuela! ✨💙🌺🌿🌻🌹🎋

My dearest friend Mo and family:
There’s a special place in all of our hearts for our mothers, just like there’s a special place in every mother’s heart for her children. You must continue to carry her memory in that special place in your heart.
I am sincerely sorry for your loss – not only of Mom, but also your brother. Please accept our deepest condolences.
Your Mom did an excellent job raising you girls, as evidenced by your characters; and I can attest to the love, care and dedication as daughters that you provided to Mom ensuring her every need and comfort up to the very end. No one can replace a mom, but God can comfort a grieving heart and you will feel her as an Angel guiding and watching over you all. May your sweet Angel rest in Heavenly peace, and may your many precious, loving memories sustain you during your most difficult moments🙏🏼
With love and prayers of comfort ~Debbie & Rodney🌹💞

Dear Mo & Family,

I really didn’t know your beloved mom, but her obituary description reminds me of you in so many ways: she was loving, kind, generous of spirit and of time. She loved her family, her religion, her principles of peace, love and kindness. I can imagine the tremendous sense of loss, but would also remind you of how blessed you have all been to have her with you for so long. That is certainly, at least in part, due to the wonderful and loving care you and your siblings and your children provided for such an extended period. You all made her later years as comfortable and rich as you could.

May she rest in peace. May you also live in the peace that she will always be with you.

Love you, my friend.

Dear Mo. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Although I have never met your Mum, I felt that I knew her somewhat, by you sharing your visits and photos. May the Divine bless you with continued strength to cope during this very stressful time. Take comfort in her beautiful memories. Some days will be laughter, some days will be tears, and some days in YOUR OWN time, there will be neither. Take comfort also in knowing that we..your family, friends and loved ones share your grief. May her Soul find solitude cradled in the arms of her Divine Maker. 🙏❤🌹
