Mendillo, Dolores “Dolly”, 76, of Fort Lauderdale, passed away Tuesday, October 13. A dedicated teacher and loving mother. She is survived by daughters; Lana Sanders & Laura Mendillo ; sons- in- law Jim & Sam and brothers; Mario Fiorito & Giulio Fiorito. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Nativity School Development Fund, Attn: Val Fanning, 5200 Johnson St. Hollywood, FL 33021. There will be a Gathering of family and friends Monday, October 19, 2009 from 5-6 PM with a Memorial Service at 6:00 PM followed by a reception with food and refreshments all at the funeral home.

Dear Lana and Laura,
My deepest sympathy to you on the passing of your mother.
I was a student of her’s for 4 years from 1972-1976 at Hollywood Hills High School.
She was so loved by us students. Always full of love and laughter. She had such a love of her language and instilled that in her students. Such a zest for life.
My favorite teacher. I will never forget her.

In August 1969 I was a member of the inaugural Italian class at Hollywood Hills High School, the only school in Broward County at that time where the language was taught. Dolly became like a second mother to me, I learned to speak Italian fluently because of her, and in the process my life was completely transformed.
