Dorothy A. Arbogast Maddox of Hollywood, Florida passed unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, in her home. She was born on September 9, 1943, in Barberton, Ohio and was a resident of Norton, Ohio where she graduated from Norton High School in 1961. After graduating from Cosmetology school and becoming a career hair stylist, she spent the majority of her adult life in the Akron area. In 1988, she relocated to Hollywood, Florida, and spent the last 26 years of her life there. Dorothy was very involved in church groups, charities, support groups and was an Alto singer in her family’s Glorious Feeling Singers chorus group. She grew up in a large family of nine children and formed special bonds and relationships with her family that would last a lifetime. She loved her immediate and extended families more than anything on this earth, and could always be counted on to nurture and support others in their time of need. In Florida, Dorothy became more committed than ever to helping others. She shared her soul and energy with others as a Reiki Master and senior care giver. In 2009 she was inducted into the Broward County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame for her exemplary commitment to local volunteer work. She was passionate about helping others, even at the expense of not tending to her own challenges and illnesses. Loving memories of Dorothy will be carried on by her son Scott Arbogast, his wife Jacquelynn, and their daughter Olivia of Stow, Ohio as well as her beloved sisters, Mary Dale Patko and Genevieve Gipson of Norton, Ohio and Katherine Joe Kasper of Lake Milton, Ohio and brothers Harry Carol Maddox of Columbus, Ohio, Richard Cathy Maddox of Norton, Ohio and Charles Kris Maddox of Akron, Ohio. She will also be remembered by many of her very special nieces and nephews and their families who meant the world to her. Dorothy used her energy and healing techniques to touch many people and their lives in her extended Florida family. Her experiences and new friendships in Florida helped build some of her most special life memories. Dorothy loved the ocean, sunshine, music, dance, and most of all – laughter. Her heart will continue to beat in all of us as it continues its quest to love and nurture the next wave of new friends in need. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Catherine Maddox, her brother James Maddox, her sister Martha James Ingersoll, and her special aunt and uncle whom she cared for in Florida, James and Helen Patko. A Florida memorial service for Dorothy will be held at Leeza’s Place, 2261 North University Drive, Suite 103, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33024 on Wednesday, March 26 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Leeza Gibbon’s Memory Foundation in Pembroke Pines in Dorothy’s remembrance.

Dorothy was about 2 when I was 11-12 and I remember carrying her around on my hip as I washed dishes we all helped, changed the baby or other things. Dotty was an easy baby to take care of and she smiled a lot and had bouncy blond curls. When we grew up, we sang Mart’s songs as the Glorious Feelng singers. I loved hearing that rich alto voice behind me when we sang. When she was in isolation in the hospital, I sent her a plastic dee- though container of candy – The nurses laughed. Dot says it was the most interesting thing to happen that day. Dot was a pretty nify lady- and she did it her way – and she made a difference.
My dear, caring sister.
