Dorothy Dixon was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on February 5, 1923 to the late Dawson and Rosa McCullough. Over the span of 96 years, Dorothy saw The Great Depression, World War II, moon landings, and the entirety of the civil rights movement.
Dorothy received her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. She spent most of her working years as a social worker in the State of Pennsylvania. Upon moving to Florida, she was a volunteer for Broward County Public Schools and was recognized as a Volunteer of The Year for her selfless commitment to at-risk youth.
Dorothy was one of the founding members of the Ebony Culture Club at Century Village, where she resided for over 25 years. She was an avid sports fan. She loved her Pittsburgh Steelers, loved the Miami Heat, tolerated the Dolphins, and played a pretty mean game of Bridge.
She traveled extensively throughout the world, she loved, she lived and despite suffering the ups and downs of life that we all experience, had very little, if any regrets.
Dorothy was married 52 years to Andrew L. Dixon. From that union there were three children: Andrew L. Dixon Jr., Diane Dixon Eddins-Bryant and Dennis Reginald Dixon.
Dorothy went home to the Lord on August 5th, 2019. She is supremely missed by her family including, her brother, Roland McCullough, 6 grandchildren: Andrew Dixon III, Chad Dixon, Lewis Ellis, Stephanie Eddins, Erica Dixon, Darren Dixon, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, her church family and numerous friends.
Dorothy has left us, yet she will always be with us in our lives and in our hearts. She lived with grace and class and she left us in the same manner.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Her mission is over
She has faced the test
Her task is finished
She now takes her rest
She has now reported
To her Commander Supreme
Her duties are over and
Her slate is wiped clean
The rewards of her life
Are unknown to we few
So we will just say
That her mission is through.
Visitation to be held on Friday, August 9, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, University Drive Chapel.

Hi MOM it’s Diane. This is August 5th, the anniversary of your passing,
August 5, 2019. I am in your house, thank you sooo much! J got the CDs put away for Kaiya and Kalee. The girls are doing good, still fighting. Stephanie hasn’t changed; maybe a little for the better. She has her own place. Ingrid checks on me. Also Jessie’s sister, Paulette, Monica, and the AKAs. And Lewis.
We all miss you very much; but we know you are watching us and shaking your head.
Love you,
your favorite/only daughter
Diane and I guess Linda
