Eileen Emma O’Hara of Pembroke Pines, Florida passed away on January 5th, 2021 after a fall at her home. Eileen was born to parents Mary and Martin Sinker on January 27th, 1935 in Plainfield, New Jersey.
She graduated from Plainfield High School in 1953. After graduation she worked in the offices of Kingston-Conley Electric Co., North Plainfield, NJ, where she met her husband Albert (Al) O’Hara. They were married in 1957 and traveled to South Florida to stay with Al’s family. They moved into their house in Pembroke Pines in 1960 where they raised their family and lived the rest of their lives. Eileen was proud to be one of the founders of the town. After her daughters were grown she attended classes at Broward Community College. She then taught computer skills and worked as a library assistant at Fairway Elementary School until retirement.
Eileen was involved with her community. She loved visiting with families and was considered “grandma” by many. She regularly attended events at the Boulevard Heights Community Center, attended St. Maurice and Nativity Catholic Churches, enjoyed eating out, watching sports and spending time with friends. As a young mother, she was active in the Pembroke Pines’ Women’s Club and remained friends with many of the members. She was interested in science and the environment. She raised butterflies for children to release to introduce the wonder of nature and watched the sky during rocket launches and astronomical events. Eileen was well loved by many and will be missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Smith (Steve); her daughter, Suzanne O’Hara; her granddaughter, Rhianon Guinn (Karl); her great granddaughters, Nyssa and Dessa Guinn, and her brother, Martin Sinker (Joann). Eileen was predeceased by her loving husband, Albert James O’Hara, her daughter, Cynthia O’Hara and her sister, Hildegarde Touchon.
A mass will be held for Eileen at St. Paul the Apostle in Cleveland, Ga as well as a memorial gathering in Florida later this year. Donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital or to your local food bank.
