ERIC (“RICK”) ROBERT STANCO passed away on March 20, 2020 following several months of post-surgical complications.
A Florida-native, Rick was born in Hollywood, FL to devoted parents, Rosalind and Frank Stanco. Rick attended Florida State University where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He attended Suffolk University Law School and practiced with a specialty in surety, construction, and government contracts in Boston, MA and Washington, DC. Rick was an expert sailor and often recounted childhood memories of coastal cruising. He sailed extensively relishing his time on the water in New England and the Chesapeake Bay. In 2007 Rick moved back “home” to Florida with his family and settled in Naples where he embraced the challenge of renovating two homes and continued to practice general law. Rick married Patti Frazier Stanco in 1997 and, although they divorced in 2010, they remained friends. He took great pride in reading to his daughters every night when they were young – especially The Book of Virtues by William Bennett and Aesop’s Fables. An avid runner, sports fan, dog-lover, political junkie, wine and food connoisseur, and “talk” aficionado, Rick was a beloved friend to all he met.
The family is indebted to Rick’s sister, Kim, brother-in-law, John, and to the dedicated health care team at Florida Advent Hospital in Orlando, FL where Rick courageously fought his battle. Special thanks to the family members, friends, and fraternity brothers who visited regularly and helped in any way needed.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Frank, and is survived his loving mother, Rosalind Stanco-Litt, her husband, Sam Litt, sister, Kim Koepsel, brother-in-law, John Koepsel and daughters, Alexandra and Nicole. He is fondly remembered by his niece and Goddaughter, Erika Puff, nephews Alex Koepsel and Kevin Koepsel, and several cousins.
Rick will remain forever in our hearts: the twinkle in his eye, the genuine smile, his wit, his charm, his compassion, his humor, his loyalty, his spirit and fortitude are the qualities that defined him and what we will remember always.
