Gary D. Boyer, 63, of Oakwood passed away unexpectedly on October 26, 2015 at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, FL.

Gary was born the son of the late Gerald Dean and Catharine A. Miller Boyer on September 13, 1952 in Danville, IL. He married Cathy Fetters Burnett on December 30, 1988 in Gatlinburg, TN.

Surviving Gary is his spouse of 27 years, Cathy; children, April Jim Lamb of Carterville, IL, Amy Steve Cortale of Willmington, DE, Jodie Burnett of Danville, IL, Angela Anthony Strubberg of Danville, IL, and Brad Rebecca Burnett of Westville, IL; grandchildren and joys of his life; Nicholas, Kahlar, Ali, Makaela, Rocco, Derek, Brayden, and Renton. Also surviving are four brothers.

Gary graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering in 2008, a feat he was most proud of. He was employed at HEICO Corporation in Hollywood, FL for 17 years and formerly at Danville Metal Stamping. Gary was very passionate about and loyal to his career and proudly served our Country in the United States Air Force. He grew up and spent his formidable years in Orange County, California where his love for the Dodgers, Rams and Lakers started.

Gary enjoyed many things including golf, the Florida Gators, fishing, animals, and spending time at all of his grandchildren’s events. He enjoyed wood working and spending time in his workshop. He earned the title of “Jack-of-all-trades” from his family. Gary could do anything he set his mind to and his family and friends will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday, October 30, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville, IL. Patti Wise will officiate the service at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Stearns Cemetery with full Military Rites.
