November 01, 1939~April 26, 2018

Squartino, Henry Gerald, 78, a resident of Davie, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, April 26, 2018.

“Poppo”, as all of his grandchildren referred to him as, loved his family greatly. He married his main squeeze Julie more than 50 years ago, with whom they raised four children. He taught them to work hard, to keep family close, how to tell a good joke, and to just be thankful. He took extreme pride in his eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild for whom he would march around the house singing children’s songs from Barney, the big purple dinosaur. The support and love he had for his children and grandchildren at all levels was unconditional. He loved his Father and Mother (both deceased), Sister, Brother (deceased) and their families very much, and looked forward to visiting as much as possible.

Most holidays at the Squartino home were big and unforgettable including delicious homemade food and desserts, tons of gifts, and most-importantly his family and friends. He took fashion cues from no one. His signature every day look is all his: plan t-shirt, cargo shorts or jeans, sneakers and a fedora. He despised smartphones, and owned an old Motorola flip phone for so long until the provider insisted he upgraded to a handheld phone.

We will miss his sense of humor, and the stories he told. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org or VITAS Healthcare, 4800 North Nob Hill Road, Sunrise, FL 33351. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at St. David’s Church in Davie, Florida at 11:00 am.

Arrangements entrusted to Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, University Drive Chapel.

Thank you dad for everything you did and for all of the kind words you said. Thank you for making me feel like the daughter who always was and for allowing my opinion to count. Thank you for welcoming Craig and letting him know how grateful you were for how he was helping me raise your grandsons. I will miss hearing you say, "Hey kiddo" when you’d answer the phone. Say hello to Jerry and let him know how amazing his boys are and how beautiful his granddaughter is. I know he would be proud. I love you and miss you deeply! Always your daughter in law…….Annette

Mr. Squartino, although I only met you a handful of times your smile was infectious and always engaging. It’s apparent you lived a rewarding and interesting life. I was saddened to find you had passed on. RIP and Godspeed to whatever comes next.
