December 09, 1946~November 23, 2014

Joan Pauline Rose Henry was in her 67th year when she was called home to heaven. A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, she had an easy smile and a gentle manner that belied a will of steel and iron-clad determination.

Originally from Eglington, Jamaica, Joan was the fourth of six children born to Marjorie and Norman Rose. Joan met Richard Henry, an electrician, who swept her off her feet by painting his 1961 Ford Comet pink and white to match her school uniform. They married 2 years later and moved to South Florida.

The couple had five children. Yet, Joan knew she wanted to do more. So, when the youngest was five, she studied nursing. This love of learning and nursing continued through out Joan’s career. After achieving her registered nursing degree, she went on to get her Bachelors’, then her masters, then a nurse practitioner’s license and finally her advanced registered nurse practitioner’s certification. She did all this while maintaining a household of five children and working full time at Jackson Memorial Hospital for 30 years.

She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Richard, her son Steve, son Valienti, daughter Kaylois, daughter Opal Brown and son Nigel, as well as grandchildren Clia, Cian, James and Olivia.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2014, starting at 11:00 a.m. with a Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at Calvary Chapel in Ft. Lauderdale.
