John Albert May, 85, of Hollywood, Florida, passed away on July 8, 2026. Born in Buffalo, New York on August 21, 1940—his parents’ anniversary—he was the only child of Howard John May and Emily (Tompkins) May. John grew up in Sanborn, New York, among extended family and cousins.

After earning an engineering degree from the University of Buffalo, John began a 30-year career with Moore Business Forms and started his family in western New York. His work later brought the family to Durham, New Hampshire, where they were active in the community, welcomed their fourth child, and saw the three oldest graduate from high school. A subsequent promotion moved them to Mississauga, Ontario.

John later began a new chapter of his life in Ontario where he met his wife, Ewa. They purchased and operated a marina in Ontario’s Muskoka lakes region. They lived and worked on-site with Ewa’s two daughters. After their years at the marina, John and Ewa retired to the warmth of southeastern Florida, eventually settling in Hollywood.

Sports were a constant throughout John’s life. He played as a youth, coached his sons’ baseball teams, and regularly attended his children’s various sporting events. He carried his Buffalo-area loyalty with him wherever he lived and remained a devoted fan of the Buffalo Bills and the Toronto Blue Jays. A lifelong sports enthusiast, John enjoyed watching games, talking sports, and sharing his extensive knowledge and deep recall of teams, players, and sports trivia.

John is survived by his wife, Ewa Galica; his four children: Deborah Schoonover (Keith), Michael May (Vivian), David May (Carolyn) and Gregory May (Erika); his two stepdaughters: Katarzyna Martin (Paul) and Anna Galica and eleven grandchildren: Brett Schoonover; Nicole, Derek, Ryan, and Tyler May; Hayley and Brady May; Savanna and Lily May; and Alexander and Karolina Martin.
