I live in East Lakes around the corner from John’s home. I have lived here for over 25 years and remember his Mom pretty well. I attended her funeral. Over the years I have gotten to know John, of course. We chatted often when he walked his dog. Prince, and more recently, Leo. He always had a positive attitude no matter what he was going through. He was an amazing guy! When he told me about his fight with cancer, I was devastated, but tried to maintain an optimistic attitude and always prayed for him. The last time we spoke, he said he was going to Jackson for a bone marrow transplant and again I said I would pray for him and looked forward to him coming home and beating the disease. I haven’t seen him in weeks and just learned yesterday of his passing. I am devastated! He was so young and I and all of our neighbors were hopeful for a good outcome, but it was not meant to me. My comfort is in knowing that he is with his Mom now. I have shared the news with numerous other neighbors who knew and loved him and they send their deepest sympathies also. I will never forget him and am sorry I did not know about it sooner as I would have attended his funeral service to pay my respects. Barbara Hansen
