JOHN R. HOOVER, SR., passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, June 16, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. His family finds comfort knowing John was a believer in his Savior Jesus Christ. John was born to Herbert and Dorothy Hoover on June 21, 1936, in Dover, Ohio and moved to Florida in 1959. He proudly served in the Navy as Radio Operator from February 1954 to June 1957. John retired from the Miami Herald in January 2000, where he started his career as Apprentice Printer and during his distinguished 41 year tenure advanced to the position of Quality Assurance Manager. Prior to his illness he was extremely active and loved to fish, take walks, golf, play guitar, and most importantly loved to spend time with his family. John loved to work with the youth as President and Coach of Little League at S.W.B.J.A.A. Miramar, as well as with underpriviledged children through various groups sponsored by the Miami Herald.
John will be dearly missed by all, especially his loving wife of 57 years, Marlene, his children, Jacqueline K. Brotz Alan, John R. Hoover, Jr., Sue and Dianna Lynn Hoover. He was the very proud grandfather of Bryan David Hoover, Alan John Brotz Gali, Kevin James Brotz Lesley, John Russell Hoover, Jordan Richard Hoover, Julie Renee Hoover, and great grandfather of Bryan David Hoover, Jr., Frankie Jane Levy, Mary Gianna Brotz and McKenzie Dianna Brotz. Our Dad/Grandpa was the warm hearted patriarch of our family and his legacy will live on through us always. John is survived by his beloved sister, Patricia Shaw, sister-in-law, Karen Heth and several cousins, nieces and nephews. John was adored by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alberta Northrop Allan, Ronald Starnieri Linda, Jimmy Starnieri Sandy, Jeff Starnieri Cindy, and Sherrell Lewis Bob. He is predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Dorothy Hoover and brothers Herbert Jr., and Kenneth.
