Marie Amara, age 88 passed away peacefully at her home in Pembroke Pines, Florida on Friday, April 3, 2020. She was born on Thursday, May 28, 1931 in New York, New York to the late John and Lillian Peterman. She was married to Achille ‘Gil” Amara in 1954 before moving to Connecticut, where their four sons were born. The family relocated to Pembroke Pines in 1970.

A talented singer, Marie was often asked to sing at special occasions including weddings. She was offered a scholarship to The Juilliard School Performing Arts Conservatory and performed at Carnegie Hall. Her favorite recitals were in the family living room where she would sing with her talented husband and his brothers. Marie became a licensed optician in 1977 and worked for Sears Optical until 2008, where she twice achieved #1 Club recognition for outstanding national performance. 

Marie’s greatest joy was her family. She was a generous, loving, caring, mentoring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her four sons, eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, dining, shopping, and vacationing. Some of her favorite family trips were to Disney World, Hawaii, Colorado, Arizona, and cruising the Caribbean.

She was preceded in death by her son: Shawn (Joni) Amara, her ex-husband, Achille Amara, and her brother John Peterman.

Marie is survived by her sons: Gil (Manuel Lubian) Amara, Barry (Tracy) Amara and Glenn (Orchid Caldarelli) Amara; grandchildren: Shannon (James) Croft; Chad (Christina) Amara, Dustin Amara, Alyssa Amara, Greyson Amara, Gianna Amara, Gavino Amara and Gino Amara and great-grandchildren: Dillon Croft, Kaileigh Croft, Ethan Amara, Preston Amara and Holly Reherman.

Visitation and Services to be held on Monday, April 13, 2020 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, 6400 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, Florida, 33024

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting financial assistance for her funeral expenses by calling the funeral home Monday through Friday, from 9 AM – 5 PM at (954) 983-6400

I worked with Marie in Hollywood Florida, for a number of years. We always enjoyed our time together as we were happy helping people. We both had a love for God, and people and that made our friendship special. I look forward to God's promise of a resurrection to see her again.
