Martin Wall Culbreth

Martin Wall Culbreth, a veteran, community leader, and cherished friend, passed away at The Brooks of Cibolo, Texas, Senior Living the age of 92.

Born to Euell Culbreth and Gertrude Wall Culbreth in West Palm Beach, Florida, he graduated from Palm Beach High School and attended Florida State University before enlisting in the United States Navy.

A Distinguished Military Career
Martin dedicated 24 years to the Navy, serving as an Aviation Warfare Systems Operator, achieving the rank of Aviation Warfare Master Chief.

Following retirement, Martin transitioned to the private sector, with SAIC (Science Applications International Corporation) in Washington, D.C. As a government contractor, he supported defense programs between military and contractors. He mentored younger civilian and military personnel who respected his experience.

Legacy of Philanthropy and Leadership

Martin left his mark on his community through his philanthropic work. He was a longtime member of the Gamma Mu social group and officer of the Gamma Mu Foundation, which strives to help rural and underserved LGBTQ+ populations across the US. He served as a generous donor, board member, and officer, including a term as President of the Foundation from 1999 to 2004. He was recently elected by the Board to Director Emeritus.

A Cherished Circle of Friends

Martin deeply valued human connection, building a network of family and friends. He bonded with fellow sailors, naval aviators, colleagues in Washington and members of the Gamma Mu Foundation.

To his friends he was known for reliability, warmth, and quiet strength—always ready to listen, counsel or support. His friendships spanned from his roots in Florida, through his naval career, his years in D.C. and his final chapters in Fort Lauderdale and Texas.

Life and Travels

In 2005, Martin relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he enjoyed world travel with close friends and the coastal sunshine and community for two decades. In February 2025, he moved to Cibolo, Texas, to be closer to step-son Robert and Tracy Nolen. During this time in Texas, he was a resident at The Brooks of Cibolo.

Family and Loved Ones
Martin was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Euell and Gertrude Culbreth, as well as his cherished life partner of 28 years, Robert Wyvon Nolen.

He leaves behind a legacy of honor, service and deep compassion that will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.
