I was saddened to hear of the passing of my former supervisor and Office Manager, Mickie Cannavan. Mickie was firm yet rewarding and encouraging – she was from the old school of self praise is no praise. She believed that hard work and dedication always paid off. Mickie was insightful, sharp and had a big heart for others.

Mickie loved living in and working for the City of Hollywood – she once told me how carefully she evaluated her decision to move here permanently from Canada and she was always happy with that decision.

I, along with my family in the U.S. and in the Bahamas, will always treasure Mickie giving me the opportunity to have a career at the City of Hollywood. I will never forget all the life lessons Mickie taught me.

Jackie – your mom was always so proud of you. My heart goes out to you.

Mickie – Peter, JoNell, Tiffany, JeReme, Paula, JeNece, Melvin and I will always keep your memory alive by speaking of you and your kindness. I will always remember you and cherish all that you did for my family and I.

I’ll always miss you,

Pauline Wallace

She will be missed. however, she is in a better place, at peace, looking down upon you with a smile. Keep her memories with you, not to depress or make you sad, but to keep a smile on your face and happiness in your hearts.

Mickie was the first person I met in the City of Hollywood; she hired me over 20 years ago. I know it was fate that brought us together as she soon became my mentor, teacher, and biggest champion. I grew and blossomed under her tutelage. She was one of the most compassionate and kind people ever! She put everyone and everything before her. If I had a penny for every time I think of her, I would have riches beyond measure. And, what she brought to my life is invaluable. I know she would tell me to stay strong. I miss her dearly, but I find comfort in, and treasure the memories we shared together.

Fondly,

April Taylor

Mickie was first my Supervisor but soon became a very good friend and even like mother to me. Mickie was there for me during many of my life’s milestones. Mickie’s professionalism and the way she carried herself personally was an inspiration to me and provided me with a stellar example of what a strong woman really is. It was an honor to know her. She will be missed!!!!

Mickie always did what she believed to be the right thing to do. Extraordinarily loyal to the City, she could always be counted on to take care of the details of any event. I have fond memories of her and am happy to read that others like Donna, April, Pauline and Pat feel the same. God Bless Mickie as she crosses over to a better side.

Mikey good words landed me a position in the City Manager’s Office where she worked. Since then we worked as a team, always wiling to teach and help. Her dedication and hard work was always to be admired. Without you Mikie, I would not have made it this far. God bless you always, RIP.
