I’ll keep this short and, in his spirit, —simple, honest, and focused on what mattered most to him: helping people and being of service. We’re saddened by his passing, but we’re really here to celebrate a remarkable life and the way he touched everyone who knew him. The best tribute we can offer isn’t just what we say today, but how we live tomorrow because of his example.

He grew up in the harshest conditions during the Depression, one of thirteen children, sleeping four to a bed and standing in line for flour and cheese. Even then, he got up, delivered bread for thirty dollars a week, and handed every dollar to his mother and older sisters so the family could get by. Those lessons in sacrifice and responsibility in Staten Island shaped everything that followed.

What he remembered most about his parents and relatives was that they stuck together—they were a big, lively family, and that togetherness carried them through the worst times. He carried that forward with us: God and family first, always, and his happiest time was when he married my mom and started his own family.

He also had another family: the New York Yankees. As a young man in the 1940s and 1950s, those teams were his escape and inspiration, from DiMaggio and Mantle to his favorite philosopher, Yogi Berra. Yogi’s lines— “It ain’t over till it’s over,” “When you come to a fork in the road, take it”—fit Dad perfectly; he chose a path, owned his choices, and kept showing up, year after year.

Very few people reach 105, and fewer still do it with his spirit, humor, and generosity. Demographers estimate that only about two thousand people in the world today are over 104, which makes a life like his extraordinarily rare. He leaves us a legacy of service, perseverance, faith, family, and a lifelong love of the Yankees—and the image of a kid from Staten Island, listening to games on the radio, believing in better days and doing the work to make them real.

Dearest uncle Mike. ❤️ our many memories of you are of a loving, cheerful, optimistic joy of a man. You lived an uplifting life always having a kind word and a beautiful smile for all. I am sure when you reached heaven aunt jo and everyone else were waiting to celebrate with you. RIP
